I sympathize with kramer. I know this thread is supposed to be all in good fun, but I'm tired of seeing people waste time, energy and bandwidth on (other) asinine forum posts which they incorrectly assume everyone else enjoys or supports. Save it for writing some funny comics.

Just yesterday I was thinking how great it was that the quality of posts and comics by newbies at SC had been improving lately. I hope that's not being accompanied by a decline in the quality of posts and comics by regulars.

We've always given newbies hell for it. Why should we hold anyone else to a different standard?

I'm not talking about "silly" forum posts. Maybe "asinine" was the wrong word. I'm talking about posts that are just plain stupid, or that contribute so little to a conversation as to not be worth the bandwidth they consume. There are a lot more of them lately than I ever remember before.

When I first discovered it, this community stood out for me for its preponderance of intelligent, articulate people and dearth of 11-year-old script kiddies like "punkrockskaboy". In my limited experience, this was almost unique for an online community. It seems somehow less special now. These days it's more representative of the typical internet body politic. That's not to tar all the newer people with the same brush: a lot of them would probably have felt more at home here a year or so ago, and I think I and some other regulars have been putting less effort into being funny recently.

The sanctimony of the way he put it rankles, but I agree with the sentiment I think Kramer is expressing.

I can't believe I've written so much about this. Maybe it's a bit rich for the creator of Fuck to be complaining at all.

I think people have been saying that Stripcreator has gone downhill from the very first day. If anyone has any constructive ideas on how to fix the problems they see, feel free to post them.

Personally, I put it down to the fact that we've all become too comfortable here.

Back in '01 the General Discussion forum would always have at least one thread discussing music tastes, films, favourite games, real names, nicknames, real ages etc. It was all about the regulars getting to know each other, and it was interesting, because EVERYONE was fairly new.

Now, we all know so damn much about each other that there's nothing much else to say. If I want to discuss some new music I bought, I know who to chat to privately about it,I know not to bring it up with DX, although I can chat to him about films.

We don't really have anything new to learn from each other, all we want to do is hang out and make comics, and the only people who want to start threads are the newbs, who most of the regulars can't really be bothered to embrace in the same way anymore.

The Comic Contests contain fewer entries from "regulars" now than ever, which I guess is good, since that's what we always tell the newbies to do.

Also, I can't help but think that the abortion of a Tag-Team Cup has something to do with lowering moral. :-)

Casual Fridays.

It's the eternal Old Guard/New Guard struggle. I remember being a reg back in my old chatroom, and I was on the same side of the fence that guys like k_v_k are right now on the newbie issue.

In the beginning, you got like 5 guys in a community, and it's pretty easy to get along with each other. Add another 5 guys, and it's still pretty jolly. But you add ANOTHER 5 guys, and tensions start to brew. Add any more, and you end up with oldbies and newbies and all the problems that come with it.

You can fix this the mean way (kick out newbies) or the lazy way (do nothing). The mean way will cut your newbie count to zero-- forever, if you don't mind the blatant elitism in this method. If you do things the lazy way, newbies will come and some regulars will drop because of it and you end up with a "new" community with different standards, and eventually the newbies will gain seniority and start the process all over again. That can't be helped; it's human nature.

Didn't you guys have the oldbie/newbie problem already? Might I suggest reviving some of the old threads to see what the people back then decided to do?
