Would the winners of a Tag Team Comic Cup referee the next one in tandem?

Here's my dubious idea: what if the "winners" of a TTCC have to battle it out in a final round to determine who the overall victor of the Cup is? That allows the next Cup to be run by just one person, and makes it more difficult for crap strippers to win solely on the strength of their partners.

Maybe they should flip a coin. Seems kind of evil to turn on your partner at the last minute.

Besides, if a crap stripper is that bad, I imagine it would bring their whole team down and they'd never make it to the end.

But if we get more than 8 teams it will get a bit complicated. We'd have to whittle that down to 8 to get it to fit a knockout competition (maybe some kind of qualifying round?), or bring it up to 16 teams, and I don't think there are enough people for that.

Chicka- if you really want to be the ref then go ahead. But you'd better make sure I get easy rules if I enter ;-)

Ok if no one has any suggestions of how I can make this work with more than 8, but less than 16 teams, I'm afraid I'll have to make this a first-come, first-serve comic competition. I really don't want to do that, simply because it isn't fair to all involved, but I have pondered all day on how to make this work and came up with nothing. I thought of doing a random draw to automatically boost a team one round. Or having one team go head to head with another in the first round, then all teams in the second and make it a quick, painful ending. Or to exchange partners (and have a limit to how many times you can lose) after each turn. None of these ideas would really work, though. And no matter what I do, I'll have hurt feelings. If I don't get an idea of how to do this in 24 hours, these are the teams:
