No comment about Bush cutting military benefits? I figured as much.

I never said I was pro-Bush or pro-Republican. I'm not going to argue for Bush (or for the Republicans, wirthling) just because you wrongly assume someone who supports the war must represent the president and/or Bush.

Also I think you are thinking of the religious ultra-conservatives in your hilarious send-up of the right wing, and not all Republicans.

It's easier to be a party person (or specific anti-party person) when you believe your opposition party is made up of the most hard-line and radical members.

Yeah, I figured some dumbass would make a half-dozen bad assumptions due to my not being explicit. Not all Republicans believe what the Buchanan-Robertson wing of the party believes but the party as a whole certainly panders to that segment, and a view held by a vocal minority can hold great sway, as it does in this case. I never meant to say that all Republicans think one way or another because I do not believe that, no more than I think all Democrats believe the same things. There are quite a few Republicans I respect. (OK, maybe the "quite" is an exaggeration.)

My only intent was to convey the idea that there is a major conservative movement, tacitly approved by the Republican party as a whole and openly espoused by quite a few Republican leaders, to remake the US as a Christian state (Judge Moore was widely supported by Repubs until he broke the law) and an ongoing quest to keep immigrants out, which sounds to me like a desire for a xenophobic theocracy. It has a bit less punch when I say it that way, though. Thanks, Captain Killjoy.

And when did I ever say you were a Republican or that everyone who supports the war is a Bush puppet? I was not even talking about or specifically to you in that post. Get a grip.

I was also talking to Spankling, it sounded like he was asking me to respond to his propaganda- I mean thoughts on Bush when I don't really have anything to say.

Except for of course that totally obvious slight-of-the-tongue.

Sorry I thought you were jumping on the Spankling bandwagon. I still think you aren't being very accurate in your depiction of the amount of influence the right wing has over society.

In a way, you're both correct. Most people don't believe as the religious Right do. And yet, they've been able to exert an influence disproportionate to their numbers through a little method called organizing. Used to be something we lefties were famous for. Now we get attacked for it by the same jerks who are running malicious "push poll" operations out of phone banks in Provo, Utah. Go figure.

Things shift to the left and right but the middle is so intert I don't think anyone has much to fear.

The extreme on either side are two faces of the same coin. They just get their erections over different kinds of propaganda.

In a few years there will be a similar upshift in the far-left's influence and then all the conservatives will be pissing and moaning. Maybe we should just freeze Spankling in carbonite until then.

Now if he'll only welcome protests in the US. "I'm so pleased to be going to a country which says that people are allowed to express their minds," He says... unlike what he's done in America by keeping protesters miles away. And if he's so happy, why did he try to keep the protesters away until he found the he couldn't?

What a crock.

I'm glad I haven't heard anyone being happy about how Bush is cutting military benefits at the same time he puts them at risk. That would suck.

I thought I was saying something about the influence right-wingers have on the Republican party, not society at large. How many Republican politicians, who ostensibly give high regard to the "founding fathers," stand up publicly for separation of church and state? I suspect most of them like things the way they are and just humor the radicals but they never say anything that might alienate the hardcore, emotional voters who help them beat the Democrats each election. It leaves one (including middle-of-the-road Republican voters) with the impression that the leadership condones extremist positions, you blister-ridden whore.

(By the way, I just quit smoking again so I may come across a bit edgier than usual, you shitguzzlingsquirrelrapingfesteringcuntmouthedmotherfucketyfuck.)

I think you could say the same thing about the radicals influencing the Democratic party, I don't understand singling out the Republicans on this. I thought the process of courting your extremists for the nomination and then shunning them for the mainstream to win the election was an obvious point-of-fact in presidential politics today.

Besides, I never said anything like, 'the Republicans do this and Democrats don't,' so I don't where you're getting the "singling out" part.

There's no radical left in US electoral politics. Closest things we have right now are Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton. And it's a stretch to say they're "in electoral politics."

We have plenty of radical-right authoritarians, however. W is one of these.

I'd love to hear some examples of how the radical left is influencing anything here.

I'd love to hear how W is a radical right authoritarian. A lot of real ultra conservatives are not happy with him.

And leftist radicals are just as xenophobic in their own way.

Maybe the farthest left in politics is the radical left and what you imagine to be the radical left is just too crazy for even anyone in their own party to give a nod towards.

The big difference is it seems like most Shiites are extremists, as opposed to containing small idealogically radical groups.

Also I would like to point out the irony in applying the word "radical" to ultra-conservative puritanical Christians.

What irony? "Radical" just means fundamental or extreme. There's no irony. The only irony I see is calling it "ultra-conservative" when some group of neo-Bible-wackos sets about fundamentally changing sociey.

I know a lot of ultra-conservatives are not happy with Bush and the neocons. And I know you know I know, because you read where I mentioned reading Pat Buchanan's rag, The American Conservative, which exists for the express purpose of giving ultra-conservatives a platform from which to snipe at the neocons.

I also realize that calling Bush a radical-right authoritarian is a little harsh, but I think I can back it up. Let's start with the authoritarian dimension. One classic definition involves favoring a concentration of power in a leader or an elite not constitutionally responsible to the people. This is certainly the short version of the Bush doctrine of unilateralism. Large majorities around the world may oppose our war-- but fuck 'em! Right? And when a country's leader is willing to defy its population by backing us up, Bush says that country is with us. That country, meaning that country's leader or elites, not the actual country. This is an authoritarian definition of "the country." As for "not constitutionally responsible to the people," I think W's stance on electoral mechanics and the majority's will is embodied in the conduct of the 2000 presidential election.

Another definition of authoritarian involves the general insistence on total obedience. I think we've got this one pretty well nailed down with the whole "with us or with the terrorists" CRAP I AM OUT OF TIME SO FUCK THIS FOR A JOKE. TBC

I just meant it was ironic because "radical" is supposed to mean "tubular" or "bodacious".

I thought we were talking about politics at home. Give me something he's done at home to make him an authoritarian. And our war at home didn't infringe on the Constitution, it was sanctioned by Congress.

Also I don't care if large majorities of the world were against the war, he's only responsible to the American people at the end of the day. I'll agree that the United States' foreign policy is authoritarian but, again, we were obviously talking about our domestic politics. And Bush only highlights that America is authoritarian, he's not the cause of it.

Resume...

George W. Bush
The White House, USA

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

LAW ENFORCEMENT:
I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available.

MILITARY:
I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam.

COLLEGE:
I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was a cheerleader.

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:
I ran for U.S. Congress and lost.

I began my career in the oil business in Midland, Texas, in 1975. I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock.

I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money.

With the help of my father and our right-wing friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF TEXAS:

I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union.

During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America.

I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money.

I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American history.

With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:
I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.

I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week.

I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history.

I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.

I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.

I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market.

In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every
month.

I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.

I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. President.

I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations.

My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. History, Enron.

My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision.

I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history.

I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history.

I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in U.S. history.

I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government.

I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S. history.

I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.

I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.

I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election).

I set the record for fewest number of press conferences of any President since the advent of television.

I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one-year period.

After taking off the entire month of August, I presided over the worst security failure in U.S.
history.

I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest failure of diplomacy in world history.

I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.

I am the first President in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S.
citizens, and the world community.

I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time.

In my State of the Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then blamed the lies on our British friends.

I am the first President in history to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security.

I am supporting development of a nuclear "Tactical Bunker Buster," a WMD.

I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein to justice.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:
All records of my tenure as governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed and unavailable for public view.

All records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

PLEASE CONSIDER MY EXPERIENCE WHEN VOTING IN 2004.
