I need some suggestions.

My 2-sided warrior stinger was disallowed by Skeeve for some reason. I never really got a clear explanation as to why, but I think it either caused code problems, or the rules regarding warrior stingers are unclear - warrior says they attack at maximum value, stinger says they can attack at any value, so which takes precedence? Anyway, Mr Strong can't be that skill combo, so I have to choose something else. I want him to be kind of separate from the other dice, and preferably two-sided so I don't have to change the art.

So... 2-sided mighty warrior? Is the mighty skill tournament legal? Any other ideas?

I think Mighty and Weak are just skills they made up for that site. But since fanatics will never be tournament legal anyway, I wouldn't worry about it.

Since Mr. Strong's a sixth die, I'd be inclined to make it reserve or auxiliary instead of warrior to lessen the advantage it gives you. Either of those should be fine coupled with stinger. I do think that a small stinger die is a good way to represent him.

The five main dice are actually quite weak, in my opinion. The couple of dev games I played with the recipe went VERY badly. However, I liked the symbolism of the recipe (trying to match it to my personality) so I didn't want to change it. The addition of the very small warrior stinger seemed ideal - a little extra boost to make my BM more competitive - but Skeeve has told me it is a bad combo for some reason.

I don't want to make it an auxilliary, since they are rarely used (in my experience) and wouldn't give a boost anyway, since your opponent would get the extra die as well. Hmmm... fire die?

The reason he wouldn't allow a Warrior Stinger is because he considers Stinger a ++ level skill, and Warrior a +++. Making Mr Strong a reserve makes sense to me.

Though I've been wondering how you got a Fanatic when you haven't played 250 games.

And I just remembered to mention that for the SC BM set to be completed, we need a formula for the Asian Girls. It's going to be tougher than I thought, since the Wonderland set already has an all-Twin BM.

The number of games needed to be a fanatic was I think 150 until a short while ago. They raised it to 250 JUST around the time DexX got his button.

How 'bout we make a buttonmen league or something, with stripcreators only?

I've been thinking (ouch)

Let's say,

At the start of the season everyone gets to pick three TL ButtonMen they can use for their matches.

At the start of every game you choose one of these three buttonmen to play with.

Every participant has to play the others twice (like a home and away fixture).

Mid-season you can replace one of your ButtonMen.

3 winning rounds

Winning a game gets you 2 points in the league. In case two people have equal points the number of rounds they won will determine who's on top.

other rules pending?...

I'll make a website where the scores and standing are kept and stuff, nothing fancy like forums needed, we can abuse Brad for that.

Ideas? Criticism? Good? Bad?

The best part is he says he didn't ask for it or anything. Apparently his reputation precedes him.

As for this SC Button Men league idea, if people are interested, I'll be happy to participate. We're still in the middle of those tournaments we started.... One thing I might suggest, though, is making some rules to prevent everyone from choosing Lascivia, Bennett, and Z-Don as their buttons. Maybe a point system, where each button is worth its win ratio, and each player can choose three buttons that total no more than 150 points.

Also, for the benefit of anyone who's not signed up to the outage news group: they expect the site to be down until at least tomorrow, maybe next week.

Could somebody tell me what it says? The only time I remember about it is when someone posts to this thread, and the only time anyone posts to this thread these days is when the site is down.

Skeeve devotes time to checking out folks' homepages -- is there something he could have gleaned from that? That's how I got my flag.

I believe I'm now 2-0 vs. Bennett. Bring him on!

(I recently beat him with The GM. You use someone with nothing but big dice against him, and sodenly his speed's not so effctive. You might almost say he's ordinary. A Berserk U Swing is a great equalizer.)

It says "RARR!" (number of Rs not necessarily accurate). Skeeve must have done a bit of hunting to get that. He didn't have to go farther than my Button Men profile to get mine. (Not that I'm complaining. I like my flag.)

Yeah, I won that same battle in some tournament a while back. Choosing large swings is usually a good strategy against speed dice. And when those large swings happen to be larger than your opponent's speed dice, and Berzerk, well....

Poison characters generally hand Bennett his ass, too. I know Bennett's good, but I think he's nowhere near unbalanced.

Now, Werner, much as I like him, is abusable. I still don't know a good way to beat the little shrimp.

I've beaten Werner twice with Nikolai I think. But I remember having quite some luck.

Lascivia however, I am yet to beat.

Bennett's two z20s make him tough, but strategy against him is still straightforward. Werner having speed and shadow on a turbo swing is pretty badass too, but that's not the real problem. The problem with Werner, Lascivia, et al. is that unless you've got a character with a lot of sides (e.g. Giant) or few sides (e.g. Rini), often it doesn't matter whether you decide to take their poison or not; you're screwed either way. I don't have a problem with poison as a TL skill (though I don't really enjoy playing with or against it -- except that I do enjoy playing with/against Max), but I think a lot of work needs to go into making a balanced recipe with it (and usually doesn't).

Still, Lascivia is the only button I'd like to see removed from the tournament legal list. She's the only one who fills me with a sense of total hopelessness when I have to fight against her. Bennett and Werner may be tough, but if they die, everyone else moves up in rank, and then someone else will be considered really tough.

The site was up for a few hours last night, but now appears to be down again.

Anyone else played Pirelli? Kind of a fun game. Don't know that I'd go to the site specifically for that, though. Still trying to work out strategy. Some folks seem to have picked it up immediately.

My mistake. From the outage group:

quote:
OK, we're back up for now.
I've relocated the server and upgrade its OS; i will now have easy access to it should it go down again.

Since it has moved it has a new IP, i've changed the DNS for www.buttonmen.dhs.org but it may take a bit to filter out so use temp.buttonmen.dhs.org in the meantime.

I agree. I've only beaten Bennett twice (which is actually the same number of times I've beaten Lascivia so far), but I have a better chance of beating Bennett with a random button selection than I do of beating Lascivia. Both of the times I've beaten her, I was playing Jellybean. If I'm entering a tournament that I think will have a lot of people playing Lascivia, I'll typically pick Jellybean or Echo. Rini and Hope are probably good choices, too.
