Some SC regulars participate in multiplayer games on other websites. Here's a thread where we can all coordinate that sort of thing.

I'm thinking specifically of NationStates, where you can join your fellow strippers in the diverse yet peaceful region of Lowpasia, and of Button Men, where you can beat one another up. I know that some folks around here also play The Sims Online, but I don't know if they interact at all. If you want to get people involved in any new games, feel free to talk about it here.

We've already had one tournament in Button Men. Unfortunately, it was joined and dominated by a few people who aren't really part of the SC community (if they ever made any comics at all). Congratulations are due to DexX, who made it to the semifinal matches in both the winners' and then the losers' bracket. I guess I should also congratulate abcgi, the overall winner, who did at least get an SC account and make a few decent comics.

There seems to be sufficient interest for another SC BM tournament, so I'm going to run one. This time, to see if we can maximize the number of actual SC regulars who participate, I'm going to hold sign-ups in this thread first. So, if you're a Button Men player and want to be a part of this tournament, post in this thread to that effect, and note what your BM username is, if it's different from your SC username. I don't think we'll have enough interest for a 16-player bracket, but if there are more than 8 players who are interested, maybe we can run two tournaments with a little overlap.

Uh, I signed up for Buttonmen, as KajunFirefly, but I got confused reading the rules and spent about 4 hours vomitting after trying to memorise the different types of dice.

Button Men can be difficult at first. It's a lot to take in at one time. But once you get the hang of it it's actually very simple.

Newbies should be aware that (a) there are a lot of die skills, though most of the time you only see two or three per game, and (b) because of the way the system works and the fact that we all have different schedules, what's usually a five- or ten-minute game in real life can sometimes end up being played out periodically over the course of several days online. That said, we always welcome new players, as long as they remember to take their turns.

There's not really a tutorial for the game, but there are a few resources for new users. There's the "Help" link on the menu, which includes the Help section of the message boards. New users should see a link on their main menu screen that they can click to join a Mentor game with experienced players willing to show them the ropes. Try joining or creating games with characters from the "Soldiers", "Majesty", "Sanctum", "Fantasy", and/or "Sluggy Freelance" sets to avoid having to deal with some of the more complex die skills. Finally, not to speak for everyone else, but if any strippers want to challenge me to a match, I'll try my best to teach you how to play.

So far it looks like the list for the tournament is me, ep, neovid, and dexx.

I did the same... except the menu navigation and general UI was so non-intuitive/boring on Button Men I only spent about 3 minutes on it before I lost interest.

I must admit, I'm tiring a bit of NationStates -- when I start seeing issues that I'd resolved 3 weeks ago, it seems like nothing's new under the sun.

Speaking of multiplayer games, who is or isn't staying in Rockstar Game once it moves from free to cheap? I'm still on the fence regarding that, and what some of my buddies here decide to do may have some sway with me.

And I don't mind helping out new Button Men players, either. My only request is that you actually play once you've joined someone's game. Punkrockskaboy, you registered and took the most difficult game I had open yesterday afternoon. I haven't seen you since, though. You can read the help files and/or ask me for help... or simply return to the site and surrender the game if you're not interested (but if that's the case, why bother taking a game?). Please don't just let it idle without telling me anything. DX has already done that.

And for god's sake, don't try to memorize all the skills when you've just started playing. Only read the skills for whatever buttons are in the game you're currently playing.
