I'm sure you're all dying to hear my $0.02 on The Two Towers. I'm not all that bothered about faithfulness to the source text for its own sake, but I felt that the films pedestrianized a lot of Tolkien's clever turns of phrase.
In the first film, I was waiting for the bit where Saruman says: "The Ruling Ring? If we could command that, then the power would pass to us", to which Gandalf replies "only one hand at a time can wield the One, and you know that well, so do not trouble to say 'we'!"
Instead, there was a brief exchange of "Meesa bad", and "You no good" and they started bouncing off the walls. The dialogue in T2T was an improvement, but it was still more basically expository than the book. I know they had to make it so the Harry Potter fans could follow it, but still...I hope RotK will return further to Tolkien-talk.
