And I am really going to have to go out on a limb and say that supplying weapons to anyone is pretty morally wrong. Especially to despots and dictators. Is that too much of a high ground?
Again, the complexities are completely being white washed over. Saudi Arabia is an oppressive government. They are combatting Al-Qaeda. Of course we should support them.
Colombia has an oppressive government. They are fighting drug lords. Should we let the drug lords take over the government?
Do you isolate and not support all governments which we find oppressive? Because we've already established there isn't a lot of difference between giving them guns and giving them other kinds of aid. Other nations deal in weapons. North Korea, for example. Should we just let them buddy up with North Korea?
The problem with just isolating these countries under the rhetoric that they are "murderers" is that we would make enemies of them. Another problem is virtually every Arabic nation would qualify as an oppressive government. And it doesn't stop there. We would isolate a large part of the developing and third world. And countries which could claim the a higher protection of human rights than the U.S. could use the same justification to isolate America. If you are arguing that America should be completely and totally an isolationist nation, I'll accept the rest of your argument. I have my own problems with the scenario though, and I'm sure you do as well.
Women in the draft? Don't think its safe for you to vote Bush, ladies.
Yeah the best I can gather Spankling's conspiracy theories are just supposed to be inflammatory, that's why it got your attention. As much political suicide as the draft would be, for an administration that appeals to just "traditional" values, a draft that targetted women would be unimaginable.
Especially if you've drafted these people. There's a difference between signing up for the armed services voluntarily, and being forced to go. Unfortunately Spankling's alternate-universe scenarios don't apply to the president except with complete and total lunatics who believe he should be guilty of all potential actions taken by all potential Bushes in all potential universes.
In which case, congratulation to Bush for his Nobel Prize in chemistry!
