Here, I´ll try this one out, see what happens.
Not merely a contest, Art Theory Throwdown is a way for the sensitive, myopic art flakes that skulk in the dim-lit, smoky corners of Chez Stripcreator to express their ideas and notions about what art is, can be and what it must become. All of this under the facade of a "stupid message board competition".
So, to start things, I´d like to see any willing participants [center][b]Deconstruct A Genre Convention
Clarification: My definition of deconstruction in Literature or Film is the creative process of breaking down a classical form or concept, examining how and why the pieces work and then either putting it back together as it was before (now with the cogs all shiny again) or arranging them in such a way you have an new machine entirely. Two means to the same end: to expose how fiction works while at the same time giving the audience something fresh to chew on.
So, in my estimation, the following are adept deconstructions: Watchmen (Superhero Fiction),Memento(Mystery Thriller),Fight Club(Apostolic Tale),Bill & Ted´s Bogus Journey(Classic Greek Epics),One Flew Over The Cuckoo´s Nest(the Buddy Salvation subplot) and so on and so forth.
I´d say that there´s only one hard and fast rule: Don´t overreach. Due to the limitations of the Stripcreator form it may be difficult and laborious to deconstruct an entire Genre (for creator as well as reader). So just stick to a convention, a theme or specific scene, utilized by all or most of the stories in any particular Genre (i.e. the "masquerading in guards uniforms" scene you´ll find in many High Action/Escape films).
Okay, so let the skull-thumpin´ ball-bustin´ jaw-droppin´ art theorizing begin.
(This contest will be evaluated by consensus of all participants. Whichever comic everyone seems to like the most wins.)
