Jimmy Corrigan is this amazing graphic novel/comic strip by Chris Ware centering around the two lives of a 36 year old man and his grandfather. One is set in present-ish times, the other is set in the 1890's. I sobbed through some parts in this book, I mean, if it wasn't so deep it would be a very long comic book and yet it was just so....BRILLIANT. Stunning. It really touched me and the last time I cried at a book was in the 8th grade after I read Cyrano de Bergerac. So yeah has anybody heard of it?

I've heard of "Crash" Corrigan and "Wrong-Way" Corrigan, but I haven't heard of "Jimmy" Corrigan. I would seek out this graphic novel, except that the only comic book store my town ever had closed down about six years ago.

It's pretty different...I think in oreder to buy it you would have to get it online or something, it isn't just something you can pick up in any store. I got it from our rich library.

That's how I felt after the Hulk fought Thor to a standstill and Thor realized that instead of defending his honor against the Hulk's childish taunts, he had actually sacrificed it by being goaded into a fight in the first place.

Then the Hulk smashed a locomotive into Thor's face.

It is indeed brilliant. I own a copy myself. While I did not cry, it is magnificent storytelling.

Yep. Chris Ware is the master of melancholy, the painter of pain, the... well I can't come up with any more alliterative phrases to describe him. He's damn good though. Check out his Quimby the Mouse stuff too... less story but great mood.

I like Ivan Brunetti too, but he's NOT for everybody. You have to really hate people and have a pretty strong stomach to handle Brunetti.

I noticed a few years ago they started carrying new Jimmy Corrigan stuff at bookstores. I've read a couple of the smaller ACME guides that he's done. Yes, kind of depressing.

I really enjoyed "It's a good life, if you don't weaken" by Seth. It's a melancholy type of comic but great, in that Love and Rockets kind of vein.

Yeah, but for me nothing can ever compare to the soaring artistry and rich, emotional subtlety of Jughead and Veronica's Beach Blowout.

Gone and Forgotten - great reviews of awful old (and not so old) comics.

Of course, I have a complete set of Justice League from the Giffen & DeMatteis years, so there is no accounting for my taste.

You know, I still adore Archie comics. But the quality of the stories has gone down and I've had almost entire comic books that I've bought that are just old comics repeated. It's like, I pay 3.50 for a comic book, I should at least gte new ones in the issue you know? You suck Archie comic writers! Come up with some new ideas!

I'm pitching this draft in which archie mistakes a stolen canister of radioactive sludge for a malt shake and falls deathly ill, only to rise as a glowing green vampire who increases in size the more lifeforce he consumes. When Archie trashes the secret military installation where he is under heavy guard and escapes, Jughead is asked to advise the National Guard on his former friend's habits and weaknesses. The dark secrets he learns regarding the government's plans will fill many thrilling pages with conspiracy and adventure involving himself and Veronica, who received Archie's engagement ring in the opening panels (flashbacks of which will pepper the story). Of course, it will turn out that the only way to save Archie is to kill him, and that in the process Jughead must face his own dark night of the soul to become the thing he fears most... are you ready for this?... a werewolf! Not to give too much away about my idea for the sequel, but the opening page is all scenes of Veronica in the shower, and the dawning terror of what awaits outside her door.
