So I swear I didn't write this in myself. The FedEx guy did. And I even called earlier just to check. The "hours" of operation are indeed what's listed on the door tag.

The worst part is they were supposed to be here no later than yesterday. And it arrived today. And he didn't even knock. And we were here and awake.

I almost forgot. Both boorite and my cars were in the driveway. So it was very obvious we were home.

My usual joke about this kind of thing is "you may contact us during our normal business hour," but this is beyond parody. So listen up, Republican fucks: I don't want to hear one more goddamn word about turning public services over to corporations so they can be more efficient and customer-oriented. Corporate bureaucracy is the worst.

At the FedEx "office" during business "hours."
What's your address?
467 N 4th.
Oh, then you have that guy. He's always running late.
I couldn't imagine.
What's yer address?
1313 Mockingbird Lane.

So do you guys ever knock?
Of course.
But you didn't and I was home.
Maybe you didn't hear me.
If I got any closer to the door I would have been outside.
I knocked loud.

Look, I don't know what you're so upset.
First of all, your business "hours" are 15 minutes and a time when most people are still at work.
So? That's our perogative to keep business hours the way we want.
Your "office" is an empty warehouse in a junkyard in the middle of nowhere. And you didn't knock.
I swear I knocked.
A few back, yes, I can see that.

Being that I worked in shipping for a couple of years, I know all about these bastards. FedEx is a fucking joke, they're even worse than UPS. DHL is by far the best carrier I ever dealt with.

You haven't lived until you've tried FedEx's automated pickup scheduling by phone.

Welcome to FedEx. Please say the service you'd like.
Pickup.
I'm sorry. I do not understand that function.
I WOULD LIKE TO SCHEDULE A PICKUP.
5 minutes later.
I'm sorry. I do not understand that function.
Christ, I hate these automated phone systems.

Welcome to FedEx. Please come back during our business hours.
What are your business hours?
4:30 - 4:45 PM.
Those aren't business "hours." Those are business "minutes."
And now I absolutely, positively have to punch you in the scrotum.

I worked a short time for Roadway Package System (RPS) before it was bought out by FedEx Ground. The drivers I loaded for mostly nice guys/lesbians. I went out on runs with a couple of guys for some extra cash (ah, college).

I believe they were paid by the box/package and that they had to buy/lease their truck/vans and pay for gas and maintenance. So, they didn't spend a lot of time dicking around at people's houses. If they didn't get a quick answer, they'd usually leave the package unless directed otherwise. FedEx management probably screwed up that policy somehow.

Still, that delivery "effort" was pretty lax on the driver's part. Why bother even going to your house?

As for their automated pickup scheduling, we had pretty good results from FedEx at my old place of business, but UPS handled the bulk of our shipping.*

Would you rather it be on government time, where everyone takes every holiday, real and imagined, off? Go to the post office like, Monday. They'll be closed for "K'Thal T'uhk", the Klingon rite of passage day.

But admittedly, there are functions the private sector has no business in. Utilities, for example. Look at how wonderful deregulation in California was. The west coast took a collective shit. I don't know if privatization of schools would do a damn bit of good, but it would be nice if the government cut back some pork in the schools, letting a little more of that money get to the teachers and the materials needed for class.

I'm talking to you Choad. :P

Seriously, I'd like to see California rise up and take a spot in the top 10 of the US when it comes to schools. I don't get how a state that almost always votes democratic in Presidential elections (yet somehow ends up voting republican for governor a lot) can be so behind in the test scores.

Things the government needs to stop fucking with: TV/Radio censorship, alcohol and tobacco (why am I paying more to die?), marijuana and possibly mushrooms. And for God's sake, I went to Orland public schools, I get all my food and stuff from Orland, why can't I vote in City elections and such? That's bullshit.

Oh, and UPS and FedEx need to stop being suck douches.
