Smurph, got your CD today man. I'm listening to it as we speak. Here's the reviews:
Thrice - For Miles - I've actually heard of Thrice and have only three of their songs. And they aren't too known out here, but are probably known better than they are in the UK. They're apart of the whole punk scene that's been bombarding the US as of late. I liked this song, a bit more slow than their other stuff.
Hard-Fi - Middle Eastern Holiday - I really liked this. My type of sound, you could say. Their politcalism could defintiely earn them a good spot in the States, seeing as most other political rock is either really metal or just lame.
Reuben - No-one Wins the War - Hard rockin stuff, just like the last song. I personally like anything that sounds good with a lot of guitar (who doesn't?). I like the screaming too, actually. Nice and hard.
Frank Zappa - Charlie's Enormous Mouth - "Her mouth is extra large and we can only assume how she's been usin' him". Crazy, but I like it. I don't even wanna know what Frank's singin about in this tune.
Foo fighters ft. Brian May - Have a Cigar - I love Brian May... this song rocked. Can you believe it? A good cover!
Do Me Bad Things - Time For Deliverance - Yeah, I've definitely not heard anything like this before. It's so... changing. If that makes sense. Do they have any more songs that are just as "rock-y" as this?
Brand New - Glory Fades - Damn, I liked the sound of this. I like the really mellow "telling a story" attitude of the actual verses and the screaming in the refrains. Good stuff.
UNKLE - Glow - Definitely mellow, but I don't know if I liked it that much. It has its place though.
Mylo - Sunworshipper - Okay, just as mellow as the last song, but I liked this one. I really like the "elevator music" thing in the background. Just something to chill to. I like it.
Lostprophets - I Don't Know - Holy shit, Smurph. I got LP's album "Start Something" when it first came out and fell in love with it. I love every song on that CD, but I friggin loved this the most (and 'Burn Burn'). I'm lovin it. Excellent choice.
Dweezil Zappa - Anytime at All - I like rock/punk covers of old songs. Naturally, I liked this. If you like these guys, I'd suggest checking out "Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies" and their rendition of "Sweet Caroline".
Jamiroquai - Music of the Mind - Ah, Jamiroquai. The folks responsible for giving us the "Napoleon Dynamite" song (Canned Heat, I know). Still funky stuff that makes me want to buy a disco ball and grow and afro.
Martin Grech - Venus - So mellow it's almost eerie... It's alright.
Joe Satriani - Baroque - I like this guy already. He's obviously italian. As for the music, definitely some good chill out music, but nothing I could really see myself listening to all that much.
The Prodigy - Spitfire - Holy hell, this song is intense... I fucking love the hard rockin guitar and whatever that squealing noise is in the background. I just... wow. Good stuff. I'm definitely adding this to a few of my other mixes.
Concrete and Clay - Jurassic 5 - Man, I love the J5. I dont' have this song, but I like it nonetheless. These guys kick ass.
Thrice - All That's Left - I actually already had this song. Great choice.
Trivium - Requiem - Screaming. I love it. Perfect song for those "I'm pissed off don't fucking talk to me" moods that I can be in sometimes.
2pac - Redemption - I love pac, it's a shame he's dead. I really like the guitar (is it Spanish). good chillin music. I like it.
Supergrass - Late in the Day - Sounds like something I'd regularly listen to. I like it
And that's about it for me. Very good CD in my opinion. Enjoyed the nice variations from hard rock to mellowness. Good variety here, and thanks for the personal note as well. As soon as you get your cat back I expect you to send me those pictures at a later date.
