I pretty much consider myself to be a new arrival on stripcreator, and so I don't really know much about it. I have come across the names of certain 'users' and discovered that they have been banned.

My question is... what has happened to the comics of the banned users?

Comics made by banned users still exist, but cannot be viewed.  Presumably, if the user were unbanned, those comics would become viewable again.  But it's rare for a user to get unbanned and stay that way.

Thank you evil_d.

My own comics lean toward the rude and crude etc., and so when I have come across users with rude/crude names, I have searched them. Some of these names I have found in the forums, then found the users info page with the titles of their last 10 comics, and found the titles to be suggestive of rude/crude comics.

I would rather read their comics rather than their old forum comments (which are still readable). I can see that if someone risks being banned, that it's a good idea if they somehow save their comics to themselves, so that they are not lost to themselves (should they indeed be banned), since becoming unbanned may not occur.

So now I'm wondering if there could be a 'Banned User Archive', or something like that.

It could be entertaining as well as helpful and educational.

The vast majority of banned users are as a result of their forum behavior, not their comic content.  For the most part, you can say what you like in your comics, but once you start berating people in the forums (with your comics or not) that gets you in bannable territory.  So, it doesn't really matter what their comics said, since that's not why they were wished into the cornfield.

I appreciate your response choadwarrior, it has cleared some questions up for me.

I think I'm hesitant to clearly ask the questions I have left because I realize that ultimately the answers may be  none of my business. I also realize that the answers maybe so long and well known to almost everyone else that everyone else doesn't really get just how ignorant I might be in these areas. So I'll ask the questions anyway and risk being told to mind my own business, or better yet, come to understand what many others have already long understood.

Q.1- Why are the comics of banned users unavailable to be seen? [evil_d has said that the comcs still exist, but cannot be viewed. He also said that it's rare for a user to become unbanned and stay that way. I guess what I'm getting at is it appears that in addition to being banned, the banned user's 'body of work' (their comics),  are in effect taken away, most likely never to be seen again. They have not been destroyed, but perhaps virtually destroyed for all intents and purposes.]

Q.2- Are all of the comics written on stripcreator (or any other site), the sole property of that site, or are they in effect 'co-owned'? [I've read some of the copyright discussions in the forums here, and I suppose it might all be settled thusly, one way or another.]

Q.3- Is the removal of a banned users comics strictly punitive?

Q.4- Why aren't the banned user's forum entries also made unavailable for viewing? [Maybe some of them have been removed, I don't know.]

I realize that I'm asking someone to spend their time answering my questions. I hope that someone will and I appreciate anyone's efforts.

Preface: this site has only one coder, Brad.  Moderators such as choadwarrior and me may participate in discussions about policies, but we don't make decisions or write code.

Removal of banned users' comics is mostly a punitive measure.  Sometimes those comics will contain attacks on other users, and would merit removal for that reason, but this doesn't happen often enough for it to be the primary reason.

In fact, I would guess that most banned accounts have few or no comics.  Usually they just signed up to make asses of themselves in the forums.

If it makes you feel any better, banned users' comics are usually not that funny (even if crudeness is to your taste).

As choadwarrior said, most banned users get banned for something they've done in the forums, which means they probably have had some of their posts deleted, on an individual basis.  As to the question of why they don't have all of their posts summarily deleted, it's probably mostly because the function just hasn't been written, and partly because those posts are part of conversations that would make less sense without them.

Concerning copyright, I don't think that Stripcreator asserts any ownership rights over the comics posted here.  Obviously you grant it the right to display your comics when you click the submit button.  If Stripcreator chooses to stop displaying them, it's not really robbing you of any of your rights to those comics -- it's just ceasing to exercise the right that you gave it.  You could still re-create your comics in another format.

If you don't think you'll remember them well enough, and you think you're at risk for getting banned, then yes, it might be wise to save your comics to your own hard drive.  Frankly, if you can exercise that kind of foresight, you are probably a lot more sensible than anybody who has ever been banned from this site.

A more pertinent question might be whether you yourself actually have any copyright on your comics.  Obviously you don't own the artwork, and the text may be too short to be copyrightable.

Don't feel like you have to apologize for asking these questions; they're perfectly reasonable, and politely worded.

Thanks evil_d.

Most of this stuff was initiated when I saw the name 'crustypussyblood'. It was such an audaciously offensive name that I just had to read his comics. Then I saw that he was banned, and his comics not viewable. I was so unhappy, I had to find out what I could about this policy.

I would still like to read his comics, not that there aren't plenty of irreverant ones by others, just that I had never seen such a username.

I have a feeling that the comics of crustypussyblood would indeed have a hard time living up to that name.

Thank you guys for your time.

Ah, yes.  That guy lasted way longer than one would have expected, considering his username.  He got warned twice and finally banned after he spammed the forums with offensive pictures for the third time over a span of about 14 months.  I don't remember anything about his comics.  But I'll bet if they had been really great I would remember it.

An afterthought: the fact that he didn't get instantly banned based on his name alone tells you a lot about how much you can get away with at Stripcreator.

I remember the dude's comics. They had no jokes in them at all, just a bunch of swearing and graphic descriptions of sex stuff that used to pass for humour with some people. Don't feel bad about having not seen them because they weren't offensive jokes, which are fine, but material designed only to be offensive which when you are not offended by it, and I suspect you would not be, is pretty pointless. It would be like a straight man looking at sexual nudes of other men - the inteded response to the work just doesn't happen. It's sad for crustypussyblood how much time he wasted here but he never caught on that he was achieving nothing.
