The thread is called lick the book because that is a quote from one of my favorite shows; Clone High.
Anyway, Halo was pretty easy for me, except that "The Library" level. I died too often.
I have both an X-box and a Gamecube. Bought them both myself! Yup, that I did.
Anyway, I've had halo for a while and I got bored with it, so I got X-box live and Unreal Championship. Good Times.
But still, all X-box games put together do not equal the Sheer Brilliance of Metroid Prime. It sticks to its platform roots, there is not an area where you don't have to jump. There is this one tower in a place called Chozo Ruins where you have to jump all the way to the top, by using only platforms. The first person view is really cool too, because you get the different visors.
Oh, and the morph ball...They did a tremendous job designing it. It's easy to control, and the transformation from your visor to the morph ball is very smooth.
And the graphics...man oh man, those are good. I think it's safe to say that no other game has ever went so far into the graphical detial that metroid has, ever. It has this cool effect that when you get hit real hard, you put your hand in front of your face, and if you have the x-ray visor on when that happens you can see the bones in your hand. Sure, that Splinter Cell game may look like it has better graphics, what with the light effects and all, but everything is polished in that game. Ever notice how is COTTON vest shines? Cotton doesn't shine! They sanded that game way too much.
Anyway, back to metroid. The only real problem I had with that game were the controls. They use Ocarina of time style controls and they just don't mix well with a FPS. After awhile though, you get used to it and it feels very natural.
Also the game makes constant references to the old games. Theres this room that has a HUGE hologram of all the planets you've been to. The metroids are back, too. They don't break out of their shell anymore, and the aren't as tough to beat up, but they're still back.
For anyone who cares about how artistic the game is, don't worry. It's plenty artistic. There's this one place called Phendrana Drifts that you will end up stopping and just looking around, even if you're gonna get trampled by a Sheegoth in a few seconds.
So, in summary, metroid prime rocks! In my opinion it is the best game ever made.ever. I give this game a 12 out of 10. It sticks to it's platform roots...it ain't afraid to get vertical. The graphics are awesome and the controls are easy. You get to fight Ridley, too. And apparently ALL of the chozo are dead. I found that weird.
Anyway, GET METROID PRIME!! Even if you gotta buy a gamecube to play it.
Well, I'm done. You guys don't have to worry about my game reviews for awhile anymore. I won't be getting any new games on account of I am getting 700 dollars worth of stuff for my bike.
Brad, get live and Unreal. If you do, my name is J0SHW, with a zero instead of an O. If you get it, look me up, I will *crush* you, or vice-versa. Probably vice-versa.
