Faye's Pizza in Sheboygan Wisconsin. The crust is thin, but the cheese and pepperonis are piled on like there's no tommorow. Quite possibly the best pie i've ever had.

Rocky's Brick Oven Pizza in Atlanta, GA.

Something about the black soot on the bottom of the crust... mmmmm...

LaVilla's in Chicago...Not insanely thick crust but just thick enough. Just the right amount of toppings and cheap.

I never go outside of chains for pizza since it's just pizza.

So, Papa John's original crust with mushroom, onion, green pepper, chicken, and pineapple.

Plain cheese and pepperoni pizza at this college cafeteria me and my friends went to ona summer technology camp thing. It was simply the most delicious pizza god ever created. It came with a price though. The deliciousness is obviously too much for mere mortals to handle, so every time we ate it we got a really bad stomach ache. It was worth it though, so we ate it three meals a day for the entire month-long retreat. I'm surprised it didn't kill us.

Pizza Villagio. It's in New York City. Next to the Salisbury Hotel on 57th street, between 6th and 7th ave I believe. I highly recommend that anyone who goes there tries it out. Wugwa.

I'm a Northsider. Don't spend a great deal of time on the South side. Lou Malnatis is ok, I just think it gets a little too much attention from people. It was hyped to much before I had it and it couldn't have possily lived up to the hype.

Besides, I found a class ring in the "tomato sauce" there once.

Expose yourself to the thick mouthful at Papa Del's in Champaign, IL. Or the pizza bianca at the 5 Joe'ses in the Washington area (sure to keep vampires away for at least a week). Or just rejoice at the diverse, delicious NY-style pizzas at just about any place in Westport, CT.

I agree with DX. Pineapple has no place on a pizza. No fruit belongs on a pizza (and don't give me that "tomato is a fruit!" argument, because that's the exception to the fucking rule... and it's still debated in some circles whether that's a fruit or vegetable). Anyway, pineapple is way too tangy, sweet and juicy. It destroys the rustic taste of the pizza. It upsets the whole balance! Can't you pineapple heads see that?!

A fruit is a fleshy, seed-bearing structure produced by a flowering plant in response to fertilization. Ergo, tomato is a fruit. It just is. No amount of debate can make it not a fruit. Not even momentarily.

Try this experiment: Bake up a nice homemade pizza, but replace all the tomato sauce in the recipe with pineapple sauce. I'll bet noone even notices the difference.

Now that we have the pun out of the way, I'm curious...

Do any of you folk here have pizza restaurants that *look* locally owned, but are in fact actually insidious chains in disguise? We do. In Asheville, there is a pizza place called "Mellow Mushroom" that looks so amazingly Ashevillian (it's arty, freaky, wacky, and a bit trippy) that a lot of people here think it's local and don't realize that there are Mellow Mushrooms in other states. I saw one in Athens GA a couple of years ago, except that the one in Athens looked like an average hole-in-the-wall, and didn't have any of the total hippie vibe that the one here exudes.

I do have to commend the Mellow Mushroom for actually making itself unobtrusive here, and making an effort to live up to the spirit of the city in which the chain has been placed. Probably why it's so well liked around here even by those who know it's a chain.

I'm actually more of a fan of homemade pizza with lots of vegetables on it. Also, use a combination of pizza sauce AND Italian Salad Dressing for zee sauce. Adds extra zing.

Spankling is right. If you want the thickest, meatiest, tastiest pizza around, go to Chicago. Some of the best Pizza Places in Chi-town include Pizzeria Uno/Pizzeria Due, LaVillas, Gino's East, Lou Malnatis, etc. Chicago was made for pizza, the thickest of them all. On just about every corner you'll see a little hole in the wall pizza stand that'll serve some good pie. Oh, Chicago has the best hot dog stands ever: Al's Beef, Ed Debevic's, Super Dog, Gene and Jude's... Chicago is also the birth place of the Italian Beef Sandwich. Chicago has some good eatin, I tell ya what.
