Remember- winners never quit, and quitters never win.

That said, I vote for Fuzzyman

Something I once read on a parody of one of those motivational posters:

Winners never quit, and quitters never win. However, if you don't win and don't quit, you're just stupid.

Not directed at anyone in particular - I read it years ago and I have never had the chance to pass it on. As for voting... I wanted to vote for LadyJ, because her strip is good and doesn't deserve to be thrashed soundly. That said, I don't think LadyJ is the type to appreciate consolation prizes, so I will vote for the one I thought was better - fuzzyman.

Hmmm. I thought having topics rather than rules like "don't use any vowels in the 2nd panel unless the number of letters in the 1st and 3rd panels add up to an even number, in which case the 2nd panel should contain only palindromes written in sanskrit" would make this easier and more open to creativity. Would it work better if the contestants were just given the broad categories (e.g. a required element would be "controversial musician" rather than "Marilyn Manson") as rules? I was thinking that might work, except that it would end the added audience participation I was trying to effect. I could just prompt everyone to offer up categories, and then I could choose from among those. Would that work?

Or are you saying that the 'categories' (not the specific topics I present as rules) I am offering are too restrictive? What exactly did you mean by "The number of choices available to us for last round's suggestions"?

I would support just having vague categories rather than specifics. But maybe that should wait until the next round to be fair, since fuzzyman and LadyJ had to contend with those tricky rules.

I think he meant that the categories are too restrictive.

I've just been watching quietly... lately, there have been too many really good suggestions made too quickly for me to bother with one of my own.

I think the style of the rules in the cup currently is actually much more conducive to creativity. The only-use-the-letter-E-once-in-each-panel style of rules makes each round terribly intimidating. The only reason I was so intimidated by the last round is that fuzzyman's comic was really fucking kickass.

What I meant was that there's a fairly small pool of, say, controversial musicians, and we all have a good idea of who they are, and making one up is sort of a wobbly proposition. It's kind of like asking us to pick a single-digit number -- there's a little room for freedom, like naming a Greek letter or using a base other than 10, but ultimately not enough comedic potential. "Historical period", on the other hand, gives us more room to breathe, and "Ronco-type device" gives us the liberty to make something up entirely. I don't mean to criticize, I think the suggestions (not the mention the strips) have been great so far, and I'd keep doing things the way we are. I'm just saying that part of the fun is having the peanut gallery come up with something original, so the more space we have to move around in, the better.

OK, I'll take a look at the categories I have planned (yes, I already wrote them all up) and try to weed out the ones that are too specific. Thanks for the feedback.

Ladyj, if it makes you feel any better, I was on pins and needles all weekend wondering if you were going to destroy me with another Scooby Doo comic. I didn't mean to psyche you out or anything by posting that comic so quickly. I couldn't think of anything else and I was afraid that if you did something similar... well, I had nothing else up my sleeve.

But, thank you. I'm pretty proud of that one.
