Coffee and Cigarettes:
From Jim Jarmusch comes this anthology of 11 short monochrome vignettes about essentially nothing. The common thread is coffee and cigarettes. All the characters either consume these items or expressly refuse to.
Mainly, the scenes are more about what isn't being said than what is being said. Some of them are propelled by a palpable undercurrent of tension between the characters. Others are propelled by cuss words. Still others turn out to be cinematic jokes with conspicuously literary punchlines. The main attraction is cameos by stars like Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Bill Murray, and Wu-tang clan, all of whom play themselves.
There is a certain type of moviegoer who can be driven insane by a movie like this. If youre this type, you probably know better than to rent this movie. If you're not, then you probably know someone who is. Rent this movie and make that person watch it, just to bother him.
