Sets are now sorted alphabetically in the user info pages and set titles can now be 60 characters long (same as comic titles).

I wrote the set system with this sort of thing in mind - so people could make lists of, say, all the comic contest comics ever, their favorites, etc. There are a few problems I've thought of about that though:

1. How do you let users select the comics to be in the set? I can't give people a list of 300,000 checkboxes.

2. The sets could get super huge, which becomes a server pig whenever anyone hits a page that has the whole list of comics on it (like in the dropdown menu).

Usually, these would be tag-team series -- seldom involving more than two users. One way to handle the logistics would be to allow the set creator to "push off" to the list of comics by someone on their favorites list, accessible by a pull-down menu (not on your list? Add them for a moment.)

For instance, the "Bipolarity" series I wrote with DexX: First I'd select all my comics from the series, then bring up his comics through the pull-down, and select all of his. I'd commit the set, and It would include all those comics in chronological order.

I'll let wiser minds than me determine if the set should also be added to DexX's list of sets as well, or not.

That sounds like it would work.

I'd say no, only because it would allow users to spam other users' set lists. It shouldn't be too much trouble for DexX to do the same thing.

Whether there's potential for abuse in being able to put other people's comics in your sets -- enough potential that we should be concerned about it -- I don't know. For example, what if I make a set full of sub_m7's comics and title it "Comics that suck"? Is that okay? I guess I can't do much worse than that via this system, and that's probably not so terrible.

There might be something to be said for allowing users to organize older sets on behalf of folks who've long since left the site.

maybe there could just be an "add comic to set" option that you can click on someone else's comic. When that comes up, a message is sent to the user saying "Allow ([u]username of person requesting add option[/u]) to add this comic to their list", which they then have to okay.

It sounds like another shitload of stuff to handle, though. I'd be content if there was a way to at least link to the thread where both sets from the collaboration are stored IN or NEAR the comics themselves.

Truth be told, although I've got a few collaborations myself, I'm just happy with the set idea in the first place.

Is the confirmation really necessary? The worst I could see happening without it is I create a set of "MikeyG comics that suck", but I could already do that via forum thread. But the confirmation would prevent me from, say, finishing my remaking a classic set.

I do like the "add comic to set" link idea, though. It would be great for a miscellaneous collection of other people's comics (if a bit less useful than kaufman's suggestion for tag-team sets).

Since the set descriptions allow HTML, you can already do this with the current setup, although in the past I've suggested that the ability to store small text/HTML annotations with your comics would be quite handy.

I agree that this would be very nice. Mainly because I have a couple of comic tag team comics. One from Drexle that I'd really like to make into a set, so I could find the comics more easily.

I'm not sure it's necessary to add other people's comics to a set anymore, because you can put the link to the thread where they all are in your profile.

Also, the confirmation would be necessary if such a plan were implemented because anyone can make a thread of "MikeyG comics that suck" and put all my shitty ones in there, but when you have them directly accessible from your comics page that may be a little much. I may be cool with that, but I'd like the ability to NOT be cool with that by clicking the "no" box or something.

And don't be jealous, BigEvilDan, just because some of my comics actually DO suck. Wait...uh...

I am loving this feature and also second evil_d's suggestions. I also like MikeyG's idea about permission to use other peoples strips. But overall Brad, it's already freakin' awesome! Thanks again!

Just a reminder to people, I don't think this was covered, but you can order your sets however you like, if you put a number before the name of each set. However, you'll have to start counting at 10 (as 2 is listed between 19 and 20 alphabetically).

That can be solved by putting number padding onto your titles. For example, if you had more than 10, 1-9 would be 01, 02, 03...09, 10, 11 ect. If you had more than a hundred (god help us) you'd put two zeros in front of the 1s and one in front of the 10s.
