This movie rocked. Brittany Murphy needs to fall off the face of the earth though. Her poor acting skills are best left to pretending to get fucked by "Rabbit" in the steel factory. I thought the chick from Gilmore Girls was horrible in it too. These two just aren't cut out for gum-shoe movies.

I give the movie two thumbs up. If it didn't have Brittany Murphy I'd give it 2 thumbs up Mikey's Mom's ass.

The way they used violence with the Marv story just oozed a certain cool you just dont get in modern cinema.

That yellow bastard could have been better. That story was mildly boring. But big fat kill was done excelently I would love to have seen: A dame to kill for, Family values and maybe Hell and back.

Hell and Back was originally going to be in the movie but was cut before shooting began. Johnny Depp was apparently going to play Wallace.

Rodriquez has said he wants to do a sequel though, so except it to be in there.

Well, I saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and if Rodriguez doesn't let Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino help him with the directing, it'll probably suck.

Tarantino only directed a single scene, and I believe Frank Miller more or less only did pre-production work.

First off... Johnny Depp's character was fucking cool in Once Upon a Time, dammit. But yeah, Sin City is a LOT better. Second, Miller did actually consult Rodriguez on a number of scenes and had the option of approving scenes or rejecting them. So it was more than just pre-production shit. He deserved the title of co-director.

And the fact that 50% of the scenes in the movie are straight out of "sin city" comic panels must have had some influence too.This movie is getting a lot of flame for being mysogenistic. The movie has major fault though: In trying that every female caracther looks cool and rough, Rodriguez failed to reach the perfect balance between strenght and vulnerability for "The whore with a hearth of gold" that Leone, for example, reaches in "Once upon a time in the West" for this caracther type.

And i havent seen Rutger Hauer in such good shape since he was a cyborg.

As for the misogyny angle, I did notice a little something in the Oldtown whores story. It seemed that even though the whores were ass-kicking and tough as nails, they still somehow needed a man to make everything right.

BELIEVE ME when I say it doesn't matter and I wouldn't change the goddamn movie over it.

The movie may come off as "misogynistic", because Frank Miller is doing a satire of noir which was heavily misogynistic back in the 30's and 40's. He's just taking it to the nth degree and having fun with it through black comedy.

Fuck, I hate these fuckers who gave this movie bad reviews because it doesn't fall into their washed-out, homogenized, politically correct image of what a film should be. I hail Rodriquez for having some balls and staying true to his source material instead of making compromises because some bitchy soccor mom in Ohio will get offended that her fourteen year old son went to see this.

Shit, to think I wanted Rodriquez dead just a year ago for his Spy-Kids movies. He's certainly redeemed himself.

Rodriquez is quite the strange filmmaker. He usually alternates between making ultra-violet action movies and kid's movies. In fact his next movie (Lava Girl and Shark Boy) is being made from an idea given to him by one of his kids.

Goddamn right. I saw Sin City again today and it was almost as awesome as the first time.

The only reason it wasn't as awesome is because I knew this time around that Carla Gugino would DEFINITELY not be naked through the rest of the movie.

There was only one thing that disappointed me at all about Sin City, and that was that Dwight's second story got told in this one... when it had his bit where he was thinking about how Marv was born a thousand years too late, I was really looking forward to A Dame To Kill For.

But if there's a sequel, doing Dame and Big Fat Kill out of order is no big deal storywise... and it means that Marv can show up in Sin City 2.

Since I'm not about to get all pretentious and try to act like I don't think the action is the coolest part of a movie, I liked the Hard Goodbye best. But I thought that about the comics also.

Also, some things actually worked better in the movie than the comics. Especially Kevin.
