I don't have enough time for both my ButtonMen addiction and my Mafia addiction... I played Mafia (Freeride Extreme mode - frustrating, but fun) until about 5am this morning. Then I couldn't help myself - I jumped online and played BM until 5:30.

Then Bec was woken up by the garbage truck. She got up briefly, didn't even stick her head in the door, not a word, and I knew I was in the shit. A quick PC shutdown and retreat into bed with my proverbial tail between my legs followed.

Here's an idea. If we get two more players, we'd have 12. Then we could run three four-player tournaments. Then the winners of those tournaments, plus one wildcard, could play another four-player tournament.

I'll give it another day or so to see if anyone else joins.

I don't suppose the software is equipped to have 3-way matches. This is how they do it in knockout competitions at bridge tournaments:

Have 3-way matches with either 1 or 2 survivors, along with 2-ways, so as to cut the field down to a power of 2 (alternatively, with 9 entries, you can have 2 rounds of nothing but 2-survivor 3-ways to cut the field down to 4).

In a 3-way, A plays B, B plays C, and C plays A. Anyone who wins both matches advances. Anyone who loses both is out. If all three finish 1-1, tiebreakers set in.

In buttonman, they could be, for example:

1) head-to-head result (if choosing between 2 after one has been filtered out)

2) rounds won minus rounds lost

3) points won minuss points lost.

4) The dreaded RNG.

That's 12 players. Since I can't figure out a way to implement kaufman's suggestions using the site's existing tournament system, I'm going to go ahead with my idea of four four-player tournaments. I rolled some virtual dice and came up with these brackets:

I'm making ep and kaufman responsible for organizing tournaments for their brackets. Everyone else just has to log on, click the "Join Tournament" link on the menu, and join their respective tournaments. Please select your button randomly.

If anyone joins the tournaments who isn't supposed to, like any non-SC user, and we catch it in time, we'll cancel the tournament and re-open it. We'll post here if that happens.

If you win a tournament, post here. Once we have winners for all the tournaments, we'll pick a wildcard and start the final tournament. I figure we'll choose the wildcard player at random from the people who lost in the championship matches, but if you want to nominate anyone in particular, feel free.
