It is a sad day in Maryland.

In this not-so-small state, nobody bothered to come campaigning. Well, Edwards made one brief stop in Bethesda last week. No one ran any commercials. Even local bozo LaRouche seems to have shot his wad on Virginia a few weeks ago. Even the Washington Post, a newspaper synonymous with political coverage, did not bother to, in its Voting Guides that went out to thousands upon thousands of Marylanders last Thursday, include profiles of the Presidential candidates on the ballot and what they stood for.

What the fuck? What if they gave a primary and nobody came?

Do I like Kerry more than Edwards, or vice versa? Hard to tell. I'll vote for either of them over Howdy Doody in eight months. But since they did so little to earn my vote, today, for what it's worth, I proudly cast my vote for Dean. I hope the good doctor takes it as what it meant -- not an endorsement of his policies (which he didn't bother to come here and defend), but rather as a thank-you for making the John of choice a heck of a lot more electable than he would have been had Dean not run.

So what d'y'all think about this talk in Pakistan that the US caught Osama ages ago and is waiting til the presidential election to announce it? It sounds like a pretty smart move, which is why I think it's unlikely.

There was a very similar story released after I, Kaleid Sheik Muhammed, was caught, claiming I had been in custody for a while before the story broke.

The only thing that might make sense about that story to me is the chance that before alerting the public (and thus Al Qaeda agents) about the capture they would first pummel me for intelligence on current plots and agents. If I recall, the U.S. was upset when the story broke so quickly for this very reason, so I don't know how likely the assertion would be (unless that's what they WANT me to think).

Aside for political reasons, that could be a reason they might also catch Osama but keep it under wraps. It would be smart to do politically, but hard to keep under wraps if it was anyone but a covert ops group who caught him. Still, given the remoteness of Osama last presumed location it would be more possible than catching Saddam and keeping it secret (in such a populated country with so many U.S. troops in the vicinity, surely someone would talk).

I guess with our technological capabilities and such motvation for catching Osama, it's hard for me to believe that we weren't able to take him in. That part of the earth is supposed to have some pretty hefty winter weather, so maybe that's it.. It'd be a great ace to have up your sleeve with an election coming up, but it could also be that he really is whereabouts unknown. If the election comes and passes with no late-breaking Osama news I'd really doubt he was secretly caught.

Still, about the Iranian hostage releases, it takes two to tango. The delay of the release had as much to do with Iranians getting back at Carter as it did for boosting Reagan's popularity. It's a little ironic now that it is the Iranians trying to call shinanigans on the exact same kind of scam.

Even if this were the case they could 100% justify holding Osama long enough to mine his potential intelligence to round up supporters without giving them notice that the jig was up.

U.S. Preparing to Totally Catch Bin Laden

This is exactly the kind of ramp up you need before finding him. You don't want to suddenly announce you've caught Bin Laden, leaking stuff like this to the press ahead of time will make it more believeable.

If the wager was that Osama was either caught, shot to chunks, or discovered dead on or before October 2004 or not, then yes I might. "They" might constitute American forces, British agents, Pakistani military, or some other force which would result in it being a "get" for the U.S.

Those are my terms.

I actually do think it's likely they "have" him, though probably not literally, they may just have him cornered.

I'd be willing to wager a Cuban cigar. What do you have that might interest me dougan?

while i can't say for sure that bush already has bin laden, i'll have to agree with MaKK_BeNN in that they'll find him before the election. they'll either pull him out of dubya's ass or have hyped up the search so much that it's inevitable (scuze me if i'm misspelling, i'm drinking 151 tonight).

i just hope all this pc equal treatment of lower-class criminals and CEOs like martha stewart eventually leads to bush getting tried for war crimes for initiating war against Iraq under the false pretense of "pre-emptive war". that's my prayer to mel gibson's whipping boy.
