I noticed recently that the "Stuff People Make" forum is gone. There were a coupla' good things on there I enjoyed, so I thought I'd like to take the chance to ressurect one of them.

So I'm hoping to dedicate this particular thread to a group art experiment, specifically tandem writing.

Briefly, what it is that I'm looking for here is for one person to begin a story, then have another write the following part, and so-on and so-forth.

I'll do it, but I can't write until this weekend... but if someone else would rather, that would be fine too. If I do start, it'd be nice to get some input from others as to what the nature of the story should be, so it can be as much fun as possible for everyone involved.

I'll definitely participate. I almost started a "Funniest Paragraph" competition a couple of weeks ago, but knew I wouldn't haven't the attention span to see it through.

But like trip said, I think we should set some guidelines first, like what kind of story we want it to be (action, humorous, etc), how long each person's contribution should (roughly) be, and a list of the order.

We can do a list of the order like they do for serial comics - start a sign-up thread and then once we have 10 or so participants, we kick it off.

Oh, there was plenty of continuity. We just had enough subplots and characters to make it interesting. And the next installment neatly ties everything together and wraps up all the loose ends. I'm sure of it!

Well, as for the original tandem-writing thread, I did my parts of the story offline so I could actually sit down and think without distraction. That's what I planned to do this time around as well.

How about anyone wanting to take part just e-mail me before February... uhm... fifth. Then we can hash out all the details (order, genre, length and things of that nature) in mail instead of here. After the fifth, I'll send out the list of names and such.

When we're finished, like boorite said, one of us could post it somewhere online. And then we all become famous, do a guest spot on Conan and ultimately bottom out mainlining household cleaners in Nicholson Baker's old duplex.
