Did anyone see the DNC speech by Barack Obama?

Jesus, that guy is gonna be the first black President one day... (if some scumbag doesn't assassinate him first, which is always a risk with visionaries)

Barack Obama seriously kicks ass. If he does run for president, let's just hope he doesn't campaign in, say, rural Alabama:

All I've been hearing about here in Illinois is Baracka Obama for months now! The man is an amazing smooth talker. Last weekend he killed my turtle and assaulted my car but he's just so damn smooth. He had the senate race for Illinois locked up before it even started. The only thing I don't like is his association with Jesse Jackson, but other than that the man is a class act.

Yes, he is quite a speaker. Anything involving Jesse Jackson makes me nervous, but I am hoping Mr. Obama associates with Mr. Jackson out of necessity.

I hope he runs in 2008. That way, I'll cast my first vote for someone that actually deserves it. Obama is a wonderful speaker. He has my respect.

I expect Kerry to be running for reelection 2008. I would say Obama in 2012 but I expect Edwards to be running at that time. Perhaps Obama as Edwards VP, so he can be groomed for the Prez post in 2020.

I haven't actually heard him or see him speak yet, but I've read his speech, and I have to say that I am impressed. If he's the first black president, that'd be great. Defenitely better than that two-timing scumwad Colin Powell.

Of course, assassination is an issue. And he'd constantly get pulled over by the police as he'd be driving to a convention.

*sigh*... I've been looking at some right-leaning blogs and message boards and I'm kinda disgusted. Since Obama's history is squeaky clean, the Republicans find themselves distorting his name (Obama rhymes with Osama) in order to bash him. Even though one has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Fucking bastards have no souls.

I honestly would not be surprised if Obama's Republican opponent, if Obama runs for President, says something like, "86% of America is white. Do we REALLY want a black man representing us in the world? Vote for me: white is right."

Unfortunately I'm sure you're right, Gabu. Those ignorant, fundamentalist fucks will do anything to stay in power and anything to suppress progress and free will.

Expect a super-dirty campaign once it's clear Kerry is winning in September or October.

Hurray for our side. Thank god the world breaks down so clearly into good guys vs. bad guys so that we can be sure of always being on the side of the angels. It would really suck if Democrats were also capable of being ignorant and currupt. Then we wouldn't know who the hell to trust.

Of course Democrats aren't perfect. I've never claimed otherwise. However, I'll put it this way: only a ticket like Bush/Cheney could take the traits of having an open mind and of being able to change one's mind on issues when new information comes to light and spin those traits into a bad thing purely by giving them a name that sounds bad and then by repeating it over and over and over until its original meaning is irrelevant.

I never said Dems are without flaw, because obviously they have a lot of it. And yes, some are corrupt, stupid, etc. However, those in Bush's cabinet take it to a whole new level. They will try to bury their opponent any way they can. They'll release goofy photos, dig into the candidate's private life in order to dig up dirt (even though the private life should never impact the public one), discredit those who are on his side or dissenters from their own cabinet (like Paul O'Neil or Richard Clarke), hound his daughters, his wife and his friends, say he's too liberal to lead the country (which is a joke)... and of course repeat over and over the one charge they have against him: That he voted for the 87 billion before he voted against it. Every time I see a Republican talking head on one of the newschannels, he makes that claim. It's like they're all part of the same hive-mind. Watch and you'll see. The scandals that plague the GOP are ones which are warranted... such as lying about reasons for going to war. The scandals that plague the Dems? Kerry changing a vote?! Give me a break.

Zaster, if you honestly can't see a difference between the two candidates this November, then you're honestly beyond help. Kerry might not make a great President, but compared to Bush? C'mon... the man wants stem-cell research, those stupid tax-cuts for the rich abolished, he does not believe in a gay marriage amendment and has promised not to send us into a war just because he wants to. Good enough for me. You can't expect a revolution by throwing away your vote for a third party candidate. Progress is made in baby-steps. The first baby-step is ensuring Bush and his cabinet leave office by any means possible.

God, help us all. The Dems are even more guilty than the Republicans in my opinion, and I will explain why.

Complacency, out of all transgressions, is the most severe and damaging. It is not enough to be the juggernaut of evil change and spread the burning disease of lies and misuse of power, that the Republicans represent, to justify such disdain, albeit deserved. No, Democrats are as worthy of my contempt as the Republicans, if not more so, because of their seemingly unique ability to lie down and take it STRAIGHT UP THE ASS from the Republicans. During the times where we absolutely needed voices of dissent and reason, which were the DEFINING times of these conflicts, we had none. The little we had were obscured by the media giants' complete and utter back-patting to the president and his cabinet.

There were Democrats in Senate and Congress, and if anyone is to be relied on to halt the progress of a Repbulican War Machine, it should have been the one party with the power enough to do so, the Dems. They failed us. The state we are in right now could well have been avoided.

I would much rather be discussing the raging debate on why we should have gone and what would have happened, etc., etc., than sitting in the aftermath and incessantly debating the merits of our already-set-in-stone actions. We have no one but the Republicans and the lie-down-and-take-it Democrats who gave the go ahead or simply stood out of the way as Mr. Bush ans his cronies steamrolled their way through our civil rights, our social security, our very safety, and piece of mind.

A foul wind blew and the Democrats just fanned it further. Is John Kerry better than George W. Bush? His service record says yes. But he is the frontrunner of the Democratic party, which has its fingers in almost as many pies as the Republicans.

Maybe we SHOULD vote him in over Bush, because I honestly believe that the Bush administration has done more damage to the already-tarnished reputation of the United States than Reagan did, who tried his damn best at it. But please, people, if you vote Kerry I urge you to pick yet a better candidate in 2008, because I doubt that Kerry will take us where we really need to go.

One of his priorities should be to repeal the Patriot Act, and doing that will be a litmus test for him as far as I am concerned.

Points taken. I think I've vented myself in "fights go here" enough when it comes to this subject. No reason to ruin a general discussion forum with such a distasteful topic as politicians.

Peace, and so forth.

Oh, and Mikey... I agree with what you said about if Kerry wins we should keep the heat on and if there is a better candidate in 2008 we should vote for him. Having said that, I will first give him a chance to prove himself in the oval office. Who knows? Maybe he'll surprise us all and be a pretty good President. However if he does suck and a Democrat wishes to challenge Kerry in 2008 (as Ted Kennedy did against Jimmy Carter in '80), then I will support and push for the challenger in the primaries. Barack Obama, I'm looking in your direction!
