Has it always been like what? Have asshole newbies come in here and challenged the way things are without having anything close to enough experience or background to make demands? Yes. It's been happening here, and on other forums, chat groups, channels, newsgroups, bulletin board systems, etc. since time immemorial. It happens in real life, too. The difference is that in real life, spaztards can be booted in the face.

i was here before you, josh, but menbah was a creation of mine from just the other night... if you'd bother to research, you'd know menbah wasn't a newbie, in the technical sense. besides, from what i've seen, the good newbies wind up sticking around, while the bad ones get the hint quickly and bugger off.

Would you like a serious answer to your question? As LadyJ mentioned, these forums, as with many things, on and offline, have an influx of new people. As with most things, they don't all stick around. People pop in, stick their feet in the proverbial pool to test the water, and most just disappear. A few stick around to make up the core of people that seem to have little else to do than sit around here and shoot the shit.

I started taking Aikido classes about two months ago. Since I've joined I've seen more than a dozen new people start. I asked the same sort of question you're asking, and some of the senior students told me that about 90% of the newbies disappear in the first month. Sean, the friend of mine that turned me on to the whole idea and started at the same time has already given up, not being able to juggle a full time job, school and still go to Aikido a couple of times a week.

So no matter what you're talking about, you're going to have new people. And maybe there have been a few more than usual lately, but the longer Stripcreator hangs around, the more likely people are to find out about it.

I have little doubt that some of the newbies are all the same person. I've always felt that Deisel is smarter than he lets on and takes on multiple personas in some kind of grand social experiment the likes of which only Hari Seldon has ever dreamt!

Yes, but I'm a QUALITY newbie. As a comic fan who does humor in other mediums -- see www.dumbentia.com -- but can't draw worth a crap, this is a godsend.

Speaking of which, how many strips or how much time does it take to graduate from Newbie to something more respectable?

I think stripcreator got a mention somewhere on Keenspot. It least, that is where I found out about it... don't remember exactly which strip.

Growing out of newbiedom requires the following three things:

1) You stop referring to yourself as a newbie, but you don't get all defensive if others do.
2) You accept this group as it is. We are a lot of people; you are one. Pathetic newbie whinings just ensure that the newbie stays a newbie, and an unliked one, at that.
3) You don't actively try to jump out of newbie level on your own. Becoming a non-newbie cannot be forced. People who are cool enough to not be newbies for long will be accepted much more rapidly just as a rule. Trying to force that situation is lame, because it means you're walking around saying, "Am I cool yet? How about now? Still not cool? OK, how about now?"

This is just as I see it.
