Some of the early generation games shows that I grew up with had fierce audio introductions. The dating game, let's make a deal, and family fued just to name a few. Anywho, i was drinking earlier today and a old school game show tune popped into my head, but i couldn't remember what it was. So with your help lets make a list of your favorite old school game shows...

10. There was a show where you chose a number and behind the number was a prize and you had to match the prizes to reveal parts of the puzzle to solve it. I can't remember the name.

Remember Press Your Luck? The one with the Whammies? I read a nifty article about that when I was looking up record breaking game show winners. (Did you know someone else has won more in Jeopardy than Ken Jennings?)

Anyway, the show had this big board with maybe 20 spaces around the outside that would light up momentarily for maybe 1/4 second before moving on to the next. I guess it looked random but apparently it followed a set pattern.

So some guy sat and home and watched it over and over again until he had the pattern memorized and managed to get on the show and won a crapload.

You can read about it in the Wiki entry under Michael Larson.

They have video of it going down on youtube and stuff that you should check out if you haven't already. My favorite part of the story was that the guy was an unemployed ex ice cream man.

All this hoop-law started when I received a call from one jolene johnson. A long time friend, i held her hair a few times back in the day and we played grab ass once or twice. fresh off her stint at the local strip club, td's north, a text came my way stating that a new career was to be had at the local booziery. I made sure i had a late lunch today. the fresh caesar wrap arrived with a stiff jack & coke, not to mention the smile and firm breasts. As i took a bite...

I know of these game shows, but I never really watched them. I tried watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for a month when I was in high school but I got so disgusted at how stupid the people were.

Hellooooo! The answer was "What is South Africa?" you stupid morons! Canada is not a major producer of diamonds! Jesus!

I like game shows where the losers fall through a trap door into a flaming pit of crocodiles. Otherwise they're kind of dull.

I love Jeopardy for numerous reasons:

1.) The contestants make me look like less of a dork in comparison.

b.) Incredibly vicious competition with my wife while we watch (she's smarter, I'm faster, so it's often a draw).

III.) Watching my 14 month old son dance to the theme song is hilarious and adorable.

I said "major," but I think the question said "world producer." After all, Arkansas and Wyoming produce diamonds, but nowhere near the level that comes out of Africa.

You did say that Jeopardy program was from when you were in high school, which was prior to Canada really becoming a diamond force. I saw something on the Discovery channel about it. Apparently some people were out in the middle of nowhere doing geological work and stumbled across some diamond rich places. Apparently they were all for keeping it secret, but the work they were doing was publicly funded so they had to report what they'd come across. Lo and behold DeBeers and a bunch of other giant corporations suddenly popped up there and started mining.

Anyhoo, in case you're watching Jeopardy nowadays...

There was a game show over here in the 80s where people got vapourised if they lost. And I'm sure kids sometimes got set on fire in Knightmare.

I wonder if Canada's diamonds are industrial or gem quality. Most of what comes out of Africa are gem quality (I swear Africa has the most awesome precious stones and we're stuck with rhodochrosite). Wyoming is a leader in industrial gems because that's all they're good for. It's really different tiers of diamond industry. I'll have to see which one Candada is in.

Yup, that's the one. I even had the Nintendo game growing up and couldn't remember it until this afternoon. Great show.

I've never met anyone else who's seen this thing. I remember it was on the Spanish channel when I had cable in NY about 10-12 years ago. It was insane.

I remember one episode that Mr. T was on. He was on this catwalk suspended over this giant pool of water. He was trying to do some task within a time limit. When the time ran out, all these fireworks all over the catwalk started going off and he had to bail into the water.

I bet OSHA wouldn't let you do cool stunts like that in the US.

Here's a good fan site for the show. Telemundo on NYC cable is where I watched it too. It didn't matter that I don't speak spanish, and it may have even added to the delightful spectacle that was Oca. I'll be the first in line if it's ever available on DVD.
