Well, I'm losing most of my already-insufficient net access. Sometime soon, I'll be reduced from an hour a day to 2 hours a week. So I guess I'll be disappearing and coming back every once in a while. ...Dammit. I'll be turning into DH-01.

Yes, due to not owning a computer, I'm at the nonexistent mercy of the city's public programs when it comes to getting net time, and most of that will be disappearing one of these days. So that'll about kill my comic making, and ability to play Button Men.

And all of the responsibilities I have that require email access and such, but that's not as important as comics.

I have no clue exactly when it'll happen, so I've got some opportunity to try and steal a computer before then, but it's not likely.

California is announcing a plan to save several million budgeted dollars. The plan involves cutting libraries, police and fire departments. The money saved will be used to construct a new Death Row. Why? Is the old one a health hazard?

Fortunately, I know a computer that's five years obsolete can do more than I need a computer to do, and how much can one of those cost? Besides more than I can afford, I mean.

Oh yeah, what's the cheapest net provider that doesn't totally suck? Someone I know recommends Netzero, despite the fact that it puts an ad right in the middle of his browser window.

Check out the computer geeks. They have a lot of old refurbs cheap.

Net Zero is arse, yeah. AOL, while it does suck, offers me 610 kbp/s downspeed DSL at my winter digs and a dial-up on the island the rest of the year for a reasonable price. It's also portable. I can use it anywhere. They also need a credit card, though, so it's not a good choice if you're without one.

I am trying to ditch AOHell this summer because the island has wireless broadband now. If I can just convince the company to let the nice folks at CoastalWave.net drill some holes the wall of the company condo.

You might want to try NetZero or Juno for now until you can upgrade or Google FREE ISP and shop there.

Netzero is crap. The free service only allows for 10 hours of access PER MONTH. It's often difficult to log on with them, and pages load slowly because of all the damn adds. Tiny window too. The $10 serive (judging by the occasional weekend sampling) isn't much better. They try to rope you in with aol compatible instant messaging, but who cares when you can download AIM for free? Or Tirllian..

I use Express56 for dialup. Not the best, but it's cheap.

I can download a 4 meg file in about 60 seconds and I never have to go near the AOL portal.

It's a wank ISP, yeah, but it beats not having any ISP. I move twice a year. Twice a year I pack up all my shit and move. Nobody else could give me access in both places without two accounts and some hefty charges. You don't HAVE to use the AOL features you know. :- ) You can just minimise the window and use MSIE. And KaZaa. And everything else. Oops, gotta go. My download is done.

I appreciate the help. I found a used computer store nearby... which one of the tech supporters I know said not to go near, for God's sake, no matter what.

I've been told that $15 a month ISPs aren't that hard to find, so getting online once I have a computer shouldn't be a problem, so long as I don't have to pay by credit card.

And I am getting plenty of comics out of this.

I've been trying to find a cheap computer. All I need is something that'll get me online. In that case, it'll be no problem. Try Ebay. You'll be able to find a used comp a few years old with all the accessories for $50, easy. I'm sure. But there's the slight problem of my not having net access of my own, meaning I don't have a personal email address, meaning Ebay won't let me register. Oh, yeah. There's that.

I think I have a spare laptop you can use. It's a Pentium 1. 1? I thought they started with 2. Well, it looks like all I need is to find an ISP for $15 or less and my access problem will be handled. And I can be a lot more productive with my own comp. I'll finally be able to play Button Men for several hours at a time!

Well, things aren't as bad as they were a while ago. Still need that ISP, though.

And DH, meet Devin, my sidekick. He posts more than I do. And maybe one of these days, one of his posts will be funny.
