Donors should see a "create set" link under their comics now. It's not completely finished but it works enough for users to play with now I think.

Basically you click that link, name the set and then select comics you'd like to be included in that set of comics. Click save and you should be forwarded to the URL for your set of comics.

Here's an example one I made with Kajun's comics:

http://www.stripcreator.com/comics/KajunFirefly/sets/roadtoaustralia/

The layout is pretty sparse right now, but it gets the point across I think. Once you make some comic sets, you can see them listed on your user info page for now.

Suggestions, bug reports, etc are welcome.

This is awesome. Thanks Brad.

One question though, how is the order in which the comics appear in the dropdown determined? I'm guessing oldest to newest?

Very cool feature, brad. A couple of points, though:

1. It needs an edit set feature. I'm sure you've already thought of this, seeing as you specified the short name can't be changed, but I just thought I'd go on record as saying it would be useful.

2. Is there any way to list all the sets a comic is part of on that comic's page? That way, if I'm randomly browsing through somebody's comics and I come across the middle of a series, I can get to the rest of the comics in a click.

1. The edit feature is done, I just need to put the link on somewhere.

2. That one would probably be a bit tricky with the way I'm storing things right now, though I can see how it'd be cool.

I'm thinking of eventually (once I'm sure they work OK) giving the sets more prominence on the user comics pages and possibly letting users select a default set when a user goes to their comic page.

Any chance of a 'top rated' for sets?

The feature I'd like to see is to be able to enter a URL for photoshopped comics hosted elsewhere and have them appear as a comic with the usual banner in a user's comics list.

The downside to this can be seen when you replace "photoshopped comics" with "red X because the URL is dead" or "picture of a gaping asshole".

Or animations of some chick squeezing her boobs over and over.

Top rated might be possible, though I'd have to calculate the ratings on strips within them or program a whole other rating system.

That might end up doubling the site's popularity. Ever since injokester arrived I find my self spending way more time in the forums.

I did think of that, it could work if it had a reporting button, so if say three people report it as a dead URL it can be deleted. As for the latter, it would be a donor only feature, and that'd be a great way to get an account and all its comics banned.

Possibly even a few regulars could be set up to review and approve comics of this nature before they can be viewed (options for Approved/Declined and Warned). If it were a known rule that only images deemed as comics could be used, no pornographic art, etc... then if a user gets three warnings they lose that feature from their account.

To be honest I don't see it being that different censorship wise than the forums, where people can already post what they like.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion. I think it'd be a great feature that would promote creativity if applied correctly.

My sig is very popular...

Seriously though, that's what I'm talking about- submitting something like that as a comic = banning.

There should now be an "edit set" link when viewing a set of yours while logged in. It all seems to work, let me know if you have any problems.

First of all, I have been eagerly anticipating this feature for months, and am overjoyed to see it finally implemented. Thanks, Brad. This is truly excellent.

Second, naturally I have some suggestions.

1. I second BigEvilDan's idea of having some way to tell, when looking at a comic, what sets it belongs to. Although I don't have any ideas about how I'd implement it. You could just have drop-down lists for each set in addition to the normal drop-down list for all comics.

2. My suggestion for featuring sets on a user's page is to have another drop-down list, below the comic drop-down list(s), that lists each set. Mostly because I can't think of any other method that wouldn't take up a lot of space.

3. I'd like sets to be listed in some order other than the order in which I created them, which is arbitrary and may not make any sense to the reader. Alphabetical should be easy and could help keep related sets together. Another possibility is to order them by the number of the first comic (or first unique comic, if one comic begins multiple sets). I'm sure someone will eventually ask to be able to set the order themselves, but I don't want that feature enough to actually ask you to do all that work.

4. I suspect this will be difficult, but I suppose there's no harm in asking. What if sets could contain both comics and other sets? That way I could have, say, one set called "Comic Contest 463 entries", and one called "Comic Contest 464 entries", and one called "All Comic Contest entries" that includes both of the previous sets, plus any contest entries where I only wrote one comic for the contest and so don't need a separate set for it. I guess this could get weird when some joker makes two sets that include each other. I don't know. Just an idea.

5. What if you could make a set that included other people's comics, or if two or more users could somehow make collaborative sets? This would help organize tag-team series. Again I don't have a clear idea of how I would implement this; it might be too difficult.

6. At least one of my suggestions should be simple: can we have as much space allowed for titling sets as for titling comics? For example, I had to make a set called RM & PL Travel Through Time because of space constraints, even though a comic title like Retroactive Man & Potential Lad Travel Through Time (10/13) fits.

The what mentioned above is total fiction. Please don't take it seriously!

Yeah, I like this idea. I wish I had thought of it when I was writing this thing. I may be able to come up with a way to implement this though.

Dropdown is possible, though I worry having two dropdowns would get confusing to the casual visitor. But I have no idea if that's true or not. My original idea was just to replace the favorites list with the set lists, but I'm not so sure about that anymore.

Should be no problem, I'll do that.

That'd be pretty freaky, I'll have to think about that one.

I wrote the set system with this sort of thing in mind - so people could make lists of, say, all the comic contest comics ever, their favorites, etc. There are a few problems I've thought of about that though:

1. How do you let users select the comics to be in the set? I can't give people a list of 300,000 checkboxes.

2. The sets could get super huge, which becomes a server pig whenever anyone hits a page that has the whole list of comics on it (like in the dropdown menu).

Sure, I'll do that in a sec.

Also I posted it in system notices, but I should probably post it here too:

http://www.stripcreator.com/sets/

You can view all the sets in order of creation on that page there. We're up to 167 already, which is pretty awesome.
