TheGovernor isn't very active on the forums, but maybe he'll check in. I thought the explosions might have more to do with the Olympic announcement than G8, but I saw this article on Yahoo, Islamic Group Claims Responsibility, for what it's worth.

Stuff like this makes me glad i live in Canada. The country that no one gives a crap about. We'll see what happens with our Olympics in Vancouver though.

I think this was more to do with g8 than the olympics. Just my opinion though.

I'm OK, just so you know.

I was working in Croydon today and surprisingly they placed it on "high alert", closed all the major roads and cordoned off the train station (which made it tricky getting home this evening). Anyhow, I wasn't in the centre, and all my friends who live around there have let me know they're OK.

It just makes me sick that the probable intention of these attacks was to disrupt a summit whose primary intentions were (for once) laudable and for a very worthy cause. I'd like to think they get the bastards who did this, but I imagine the actual culprits blew themselves up in the process, and as we already know, al-Qaeda is a hydra that just won't die.

All the police are up here just now because of the G8 summit, London was a sitting duck. Although to be honest, I don't know what an extra 1,000 police officers would have done to stop suicide bombers other than maybe raised the death toll.

My uncle lives in London. If any of you guys see an elderly old Jewish dude with an American accent, please send a good word his way...

so does mine. in fact he worked the underground for 15 years or so until a couple of months ago when he had a heart attack. hes still recovering so only working half days at his new job. thats the only reason he wasnt in the middle of it this morning. i talked to my aunt this mornin and she said they reported it was multiple electrical problems at first. she said something about them shutting down cell phones for emergency purposes too. anyway their all right and glad everyone here is.

OK I'm back. Chi was about the only SC user I thought who might have been affected, luckily he seems to have nothing more than a case of HowthehelldoIgethomenowitis.

You can read all the details of what happened on one of many internet sites. The untold story is that thousands of people are stranded in various parts of the country as London transport has effectively shut down for the day. My London based friends are looking at several hours to travel home - one has about 11km to walk or cadge a lift. I'm hearing that buses are coming back on but the Tube is off until tomorrow. The economic impact will run into the billions.

And not to mention the 37 deaths and hundreds of injuries. It could have been a lot worse - if a mainline train had been bombed and not an underground train, or if the bombs had been more powerful, you could be looking at hundreds of dead. Mercifully not though.

OK, I'm off now, it's been an eventful day.
