Yes, but I'm a QUALITY newbie. As a comic fan who does humor in other mediums -- see www.dumbentia.com -- but can't draw worth a crap, this is a godsend.

You might want to fix your sig so the hyperlink doesn't have quotes in it. As you can see (if you test it), the link goes nowhere.

Um... well.

First off, it's DH-01, you NITWIT!

Or just Darkheart One or DH1. Yeesh.

And yes, I've been here since March. Lookit the date on my first comic, people. I just had a very long, sad hiatus thanks to some truly rough... er, I'll pass on the explaination, but STILL.

I'm, like, not a newbie.

Trust me on this.

That is all. Pink donkeys to everyone.

Strange... there are no quotes, and it works for me.

Okay, let's try this... I see how the sig was getting messed up -- but strangely, I what was showing as the hyperlink is not what I put in the sig (nor was it what was there when I checked).

But lets see if letting the site auto hyperlink it works...

This is besides the point but, why don't we have more that one moderator? Brad does it all, Senior members such as crabby and DexX for example-they could moderate. Just thought I'd put that in there.

The reason we don't have that is because this is Brad's site, and he hasn't offered anyone that privilege or power. Having chatted with him about other stuff, I get the impression that it's very much not on his agenda.

I don't think we need more moderators. I think we do fine on our own.

Growing out of newbiedom requires the following three things:

1) You stop referring to yourself as a newbie, but you don't get all defensive if others do.
2) You accept this group as it is. We are a lot of people; you are one. Pathetic newbie whinings just ensure that the newbie stays a newbie, and an unliked one, at that.
3) You don't actively try to jump out of newbie level on your own. Becoming a non-newbie cannot be forced. People who are cool enough to not be newbies for long will be accepted much more rapidly just as a rule. Trying to force that situation is lame, because it means you're walking around saying, "Am I cool yet? How about now? Still not cool? OK, how about now?"

This is just as I see it.

Hmmm. You've read a bit more into my question than I thought, but thanks for your insights.

I was asking the question under the assumption that the title "Stripcreator Newbie" that appears under my name in the forum was an automatic function that changed programatically (much the way an eBay star rating changes after a certain amount of positive feedback is received).

From your answer, it would appear that this is not the case, and that a title is conferred upon a newbie if and when someone decides they deserve it.

In which case... whatever. Mainly, having been on the net in it's various incarnations since 1984, seeing the term "newbie" under my name is a bit disconcerting. But since it is out of my control in terms of how many strips I do, etc... well, what will be will be.

To your point -- I don't see any point (or need) to change the group -- I'm not sure what it would accomplish if one tried. Either I fit in here and I like the people or I don't. If I don't, I find something else to do with my time.

In the end I don't care if anyone thinks I'm cool (I don't have much control over that -- no mater what you do, SOMEONE will think you're a dick), as long as they think my strips are funny.

It was not just for your benefit. I decided to post it for the good of all.

The "Stripcreator Newbie" title itself means nothing regarding how we feel about a person. There are lots of people who would be considered non-newbies with that title, and a lot more who are still considered newbies despite their titles. All it means is that a certain number of forum posts have yet to be made using that account.

Deal with it. Every time you join a new group, you are a newbie again - not to the net in general, granted... but to that group. Actions speak more loudly than words. If you've been online that long, this should be a fundamental truth you understand by now.

Frankly, when someone expects to be treated differently than other newbies because of his internet longevity, it makes me more inclined to hold him to a higher standard before I respect him.

Again, that part was speaking more to certain other newbies. Don't be so self-centered. :)

Oh, I don't expect to be treated differently. I was just explaining why seeing "newbie" next to my name was annoying to me. In terms of making it go away, I accede to the requirements of the community. Now I (sort of) know what those requirements are. I think.

In terms of being self-centered -- well, if a note is addressed to me, I assume that the comments are directed at me unless otherwise noted. So there :-)

You should have gotten here in the first month when it was a desolate wasteland. Back then everyone was pretty much a newbie at the same time.

I should have bought Microsoft when it went public, too.

I yam what I yam. Check out my brand-spanking new title! It stands as my modest protest against internet tribalism and society's quickness to slap labels on people, ect.

Or maybe it's a defensive attempt to defuse criticism by advertising my own self-doubts.

Aw fuck it. Actually I was just drunk.

One word: Slashdot.

On the subject of being or not being a newbie, I must repeat what I've said before. You can never lose your newbie status -- here or anywhere -- by trying. You'll usually just annoy others if you do. Stop trying, and you will succeed.

Knowing how to conduct oneself when one is new to a group is an important social skill both in physical space and cyberspace. If you don't have it, learn it. Lesson one: don't talk about being new, don't make a big deal about being new.

If you're just concerned about the "Stripcreator Newbie" tag under your name, I'm pretty sure that's tied to (a) your number of posts and (b) whether you've contributed money to support the site.

The what mentioned above is total fiction. Please don't take it seriously!

Yep... I'm pretty sure my title would be "Strip Creator Veteran" if I hadn't contributed a while back... but considering that there are people who have been here so much longer than me who are still in TOBOR's fanclub, it would just be wrong.

I hope you don't mind small donations, Brad... that one I sent before was probably the largest I can send for a while.

Y'all need to fuck off. I mean, people "making outrageous demands with no idea what they're asking" is pretty much how this whole thing started. Damn near everyone I remember from them who is still on now was on the "Let's see if Johnny/Brad will break his pelvis taking it up the ass for us if we just whine long enough" bandwagon. I mean, so many posts of "U NEEDA PREVEW PAIN OR WNDOW CUZ LIK SEVEN TIMS I POSTED AN DI FORGOT TO SPELL BLOW ME RIGHT OVER DEUCE'S HEAD" and the CONSTANT BITCHING to allow people to delete comics, or to delete offensive comics, or to delete comics that made someone feel bad. Lots of newbies? Yes. Do you have the right to say word one about them causing "trouble" in this fine community? Well, son, the answer to that one is FUCKING NO.
