So, the other day I was going through the boxes of crap I packed up at my parents house before I moved last year, and I found some of the best old tapes ever. We're talking, like, old mixed tapes with Mr. Roboto and Rasputin; Alannah Myles; Roxette; and Ace of Base (that one doesn't really fit in, but damn it makes good driving tunes). Then I found all the old books I thought my parents had sold, plus a bunch of stories and essays from school that I thought I threw out. So I'm just wondering if anyone else gets this excited over old stuff that they used to love, or if I'm the only one.

I was speaking to my mom awhile back and she mentioned that she had a box of my old stuff (stories I'd written, some comics, a wrestling mask, etc) that she had found. Anywho, I was pretty stoked about going through it and seeing what my little time capsule had in it. Last week she calls me and says that rats got into it and ate a bunch of the papers and crapped all in the box. Anyway, before I heard that, I was pretty excited about my box o' stuff. Now? Not so excited about the box.

I do enjoy finding old mix tapes, unless they were made by one of my ex-s, because that means it probably has Tori Amos or Mazzy Star on it.

It sounds like your exes and my exes have probably been at some concerts together. I'm not a fan of Tori Amos, but she's had some pretty good songs before. I put one on the mix I sent this last swap. Now, I've been to a Deicide show, seen Ministry, Anthrax, VOD, Overkill, White Zombie, Primus, and Motorhead live, and NONE of those concerts had fans anywhere near as nasty and maniacal as a Tori Amos show.

My ex also loved Ani DiFranco. I, quite simply, do not.

I almost mentioned Ani DiFranco as well. Yep, I missed Wynton Marsalis at the New Orleans jazz fest because my ex wanted to see fucking Ani DiFranco and didn't want to stand by herself.

Only in recent years have I been able to listen to Tori Amos, the Indigo Girls, or Ani DiFranco and not want to puncture my eardrums, but I think that's because the little lady likes them and she somehow makes the unbearable bearable.

I always beam with glee every time I see my old transformers in the basement of the house I grew up in. Especially Starscream. I kinda wish my old Megatron hadn't been given so much wear and tear, though... he was so much more awesome as a handgun.

Megatron as the handgun was an AWESOME toy. Hell, I see old G.I. Joes and TMNT and Transformers and I feel like a 9 year old again.

I even liked the Go-Bots.

My mom also threw away all of my 'My Little Pony' stuff, which hurts. My friend Rachelle, however, kept all hers and has expanded. She has over 200 ponies.

Go-Bots had some kick-ass toys, but not as kick-ass as the Transformers.

Heh. Same here. But there was a shitload of G.I. Joe comics in there, which made me laugh. Plus there was some Classic X-Men and stuff. So I had a pretty good geek-out over it.

I had some old Mad Magazines from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. But I told my mom to jst throw them out....................I am so fucking stupid.

Dude, old Marvel comics rule. But not because they're awesome in any way. Mostly because they're like the 7th Heaven of comics.

I never had the chance to explore my room because my mom periodically tosses stuff into the creepy storage space above the barn that's haunted with god only knows what.

But grandma saves everything in her house just the way her kids had them growing up (rather anal). So I find tons of goodies searching there. Like FF, Daredevil, Avengers, XMen, and other comics from the 60's.

I have several big boxes full of old comics, magazines, etc., but I think the only one that's worth anything is the issue of X-MEN that changed over from the old to the new characters (#93, I think).

I also had a piece of typing paper from the early seventies with 20 or 30 autographs from everyone in the Marvel bullpen who was there that day (such as Stan Lee, Bill Everett, Roy Thomas, John Severin, Larry Lieber, John Romita, etc.) but I can't find it now.
