Not the best to use (I REALLY want a Minolta or Nikon for photography!) but they're okay.
That's a good plan, I use a Minolta Dimage 7hi for art photography and, though it's a little dated, it's still fantastic. After almost 4 years it's still the 4th best digital camera they've ever made. 2 of the ones above it are just upgrades to it, and the other's their DSLR which is automatically better.
Unless you're not talking about digital. In that case all I know is you should still get a Minolta. A Maxxum.
But don't get nikon. I've had nikon. Nikon's "good" is several times more expensive than Minolta's "good", which means you'll pay roughly 200 dollars more for a Nikon(the 5700) which, aside from the name on the camera, is basically the exact same as the Minolta(7hi), except Minolta allows the use of additional filters and lenses, and is more versatile with the controls and properties.
