I know the stars show the ratings but what do they represent?
Like I know zero stars mean you're terrible but is 3 average?

it can be a personal rating, like most of mine are.
hence why im at 2, the people here love to hate me :D

and yes, 3 would pretty much be average

Maybe I should clarify my previous post.

I think ratings should be permanent, and not be able to be changed after the fact. Twice in the last month, I've gone down to 4 stars, even though there was no new ratings on my info page. No idea why someone would do that, maybe my recent NHL related comics are offensive. *shrug*

I have no problem with losing a star from new ratings, but it is annoying when that isn't the case and makes me even less inclined to take part in the community here.

Well, a n00b with crappy comics could have a few of his donor buddies rate him good, giving him 5 stars. Does that mean he's as good a stripper as boorite or kaufman? Of course not. You gotta look at the number of votes. I've had 35 people vote for me and I lost my 5 stars only recently, but even if I'm still 4 stars I'm proud of it.

And yes, in agreeance with niteowl, the rating system is flawed

I haven't been 5 stars for awhile now. And where it stung at first, all I hae to say is... at least I'm not three stars. Yet. Who knows what the future will bring.

member ratings are a popularity contest. plus what their rating is vague. i was using it to rate people in the forums and then rating their comics individually. i'd like to see member ratings go bye bye and keep the comic ratings. i'd make comic votes permanent since of course a comic isn't going to be as funny after you've read it 50 times. making it permanent would standardize it to first viewing, and reduce any popularity contest or top rated manipulating that would probbly occur otherwise

Niteowl is back to 5! My girlfriend and I made up last night. I rate people daily, depending on the level of discontent I have with the world. Sometimes its also a reflection on how I'm getting along with my girlfriend.

I think you're probably two stars because you're not funny. Every now and then you squeeze out a really funny comic but, if the rating reflects your funny percentage, I'd say two stars is generous.

I rate folks that I enjoy and tend not to rate people who I don't enjoy. The ratings are really only as important as you want them to be.

First and foremost, I <3 niteowl's comics. There would be absolutely no use for the owl character without him. If he is run out of sc forever, I will be sad on the inside and very angry toward people I suspect have had anything to do with it (in other words, everyone).

The ratings system is basically what people think of your personal character. If there were some kind of complex rating mechanism that automatically finds the average rating of your comics and computes that into a 5 star format as your user rating, then perhaps the rating system wouldn't be getting such a bad rap right now.

I'm back from my killing spree. Just kidding, I was playing NHL 2K5.

Anyhoo, I apologize for my drama queen impersonation and the issues I had are resolved, at least on my end. I had a discussion in private messages with a fellow stripper who shall remain nameless, and everything's cool now. I know I shouldn't really give a crap about ratings but I still think it's flawed...that's just my opinion.

This is why chicka is one of my favorite people on this site. <3
