I found a quote about MatrixRL that I liked....
quote:
A lot of people are going to talk smack about the Matrix BECAUSE
A) it's popular
B) it's not perfect.
A gives them just cause to feel superior to everybody else by trashing something that's beloved by many -- and ironically, once the ball is rolling and trashing is in full effect, it then makes them feel like one of the in-crowd by saying "Oh, uh, yeah, matrix sucked, I agree with you. I'm cool now like you are, right?". Kind of like folks attacking the new Star Wars movies, it's very en vouge to attack them, so you do.
B gives them the ammo for attacking. No movie is perfect, but ANY flaw, no matter how small, is another tool in the toolbox of the movie detractor. "The acting sucked!" "The pacing was off!" "This particular shot had inferior lighting!" You need some specific points to prove your thesis that it's complete shit, and no matter how large or small, ANY flaw is going to serve that purpose.
I hit the same problem with my NWN mods. Popular! So attack them. Not perfect! So point it out. It's a nice little formula for people with vast superiority complexes.
And somewhere in that messy din, you will hear a few lone voices stating -- simply and quietly -- one of two things.
"I liked it. Had some flaws, but overall I had fun."
"I wasn't really into it."
And those are the people you should really listen to, because all they care about is relating how they feel, not trying to align with one side or another of a jihad
