I think The Matrix Reloaded suffers greatly from Back to the Future II syndrome - a lot of complicated exposition and a lot of set-up for the third installment. Plus, what the heck did that Zion orgy party have to do with anything?

The stupidest part is when Trinity hacks into Warner Bros corporate HQ, downloads a script, and realizes they're all just characters in a movie. Sorry if I spoiled the ending for anyone.

Except that the new Star Wars movies really are horrible, I agree. The problem is that Lucas hadn't written or directed anything in a couple of decades, then comes back to his multi-million dollar fanchise and decides to write and direct the movies himself, and since he's the boss, nobody can tell him to stuff it.

George Lucas was never a great writer or director, but I just wish he had done some practice films before coming back to Star Wars.

Hmm. I really liked it... Agreed that Zion dancing-ness was a tad longer then it needed to be, and the French guy didn't need to go on as long as he did... But that aside, I Really liked it. There were some deep philosophical dilemmas voiced in that movie like the meaning of choice and the bottom line of human nature.

That and Carrie Anne Moss's ass!

Um, I talk about the movie very slightly in my post, so don't read it if you don't want any bit spoiled.

I'm with you, dude or dudette. I did actually like the Zion dancing fest, and I really liked anytime anyone OTHER than Morpheus talked about the philosophical issues involved. I get the feeling like the Wachowski brothers are setting up Morpheus to play the ...*gasp*... fool in the next movie.

I liked it more than the first movie because I felt that it didn't try to relate to anybody besides the Wachowskis. They made the exact movie they wanted, and it worked. Yes, some stuff didn't work, but overall I thought it was a great movie. Want to read a really good review? Read the NYTimes. I think the reviewer was really roundabout but made some good points.

One more thing... Almost everyone I know thought they understood the plot. It took 2 viewings (well worth my 10 bucks) to really understand what the hell was going on with some of the explanations and mythology. If you have any doubts about your understanding of the plot, chances are you don't understand as much as you think you do. Go see it again. I was quite pleased with the intelligence and grace of the ever changing plot in this installment.

Sex Piano.

I saw Matrix Reloaded last night. Man oh man it was awful. Afterwards I had to go to the hospital to be treated for injuries I sustained due to excessive sighing, cringing and eye-rolling.

The best part of the whole movie was when they played Calm Like a Bomb by Rage Against the Machine over the credits.

Bad, bad movie.

I wasn't going to bother with RL because I thought the first movie was boring and from all accounts this one is worse. But if they play Calm Like a Bomb, maybe I will.

The first movie looted and betrayed a whole literary genre. Plus it was stupid. I mean, human beings would make really shitty batteries. Realize that one simple fact and the whole movie falls to pieces.
