The reason why I refer to some comic competitions as "lesser" is because they're redundant and unwarranted. Most of the competitions we've got going on ought to just be part of the original Comic Contest. World's Worst is a great example because it was an installment of the original CC.
When I look at these other competitions, I think "Here's a competition that was started by someone unclear on the concept of the Comic Contest. Someone who didn't think he should have to wait until he won a contest to start one." If I wanted to see another World's Worst contest I'd just wait until I won a CC and then make one (there's no rule that says that the same idea can't be used twice; it's pretty much certain to happen sooner or later, if it hasn't already). If I had a great idea for a "Rewrite this comic with different graphics" contest, I'd wait until I won a CC and then make one. I could start a new "type" of competition, and since I'm an old hand around here I doubt anybody would say anything to me about it. But I don't, because I know the first little thing about self-restraint, and I know that my particular ideas don't deserve special treatment any more than anyone else's.
You could argue that the fact that people enter these competitions means they have popular support and therefore should stay around. But the truth, illustrated by the abortive "BCC" and "MINSA" competitions, is that people will enter pretty much anything. Eventually we'll have so many competitions that the ratio of competition types to users is so bad that there's no substance in any of them. And even then, people will keep creating more, just because they want their own vanity competition.
These competitions clutter the forum and dilute the original CC. If it were up to me, I'd do away with them all and tell everyone to keep it in the original CC where it belongs. In comparison, I don't think stuffing the lesser competitions in some forum ("Theme Competitions"?) where the rest of us can pretend they don't exist is such an unreasonable request.
