So what's new in my life?
I've been elected Religious Advisor for the Omaha, Nebraska chapter of the Hash House Harriers!
What's the Hash House Harriers?
We're a drinking club with a running problem. It's a club that was established in 1938 by British Business men overseas in Kuala Lumpur, and it has since grown to gargantuan proportions with chapters in most major cities all over the world.
What do the Hash House Harriers do?
We get together regularly to participate in what amounts to an athletic drinking game. It's like a treasure hunt and a nature walk, with ridiculous traditions and rituals and lots of crappy beer. Even with all the beer, it keeps me active and I'm always in better shape when I've been regularly hashing than when I haven't.
What does the Religious Advisor do?
All the ceremonial stuff, including blessing the hares before they run off and lay trail, and officiating at the ceremony at the end of every trail, where we sing our ridiculous songs and make people drink copious amounts of beer for imagined infractions they committed on trail.
I just thought I'd share news of this honor with my buds. I know a lot of people have never heard of the club before, and when I tell them about it, some of them even go scope out their local chapter to participate. I definitely encourage that, because it's a lot of fun and a neat group of people. It's also a great way to meet new people when you travel, cause there's always a very high likelihood of a chapter existing wherever your destination is, and a ready-made group of people to meet and hang with and network with to find other local points of interest.
