I went to the only gay-bar that Saskatoon has to offer last night for the first time ever. It was a Lady Gaga-themed drag show. Some of the "ladies" were excellent, some not so much.

It was also the most fun semi-sober bar night I've had in my almost 6 years of bar experiences. I am also ridiculously sore from all of the dancing we did. Hooray for gay-bars!

(yes, every time I hear gay-bar I think of Electric Six)

Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over - an analyst and a therapist. The world's first analrapist.

I completed my third century bike ride last Saturday.  104 miles total; 6h25m in the saddle.  I'm pretty happy with that time considering the climbing and wind I had to face in this one.  Check me out in spandex!

Early in the morning looking fierce:

No, I don't shave my legs:

Great!  Now just do that ride 20 more times and get a real workout.

You should do the Scripps Ranch Old Pros ride on July 4th.  They have 12, 28, and 50 mile options.  The group I ride with is doing the 28; I'm gonna do the 50, then ride up to my parents' house and drink up all the calories I burned.

People interested in selling them, of course.  The 220 on the helmet isn't for tracking the riders as much as it's for identifying potential customers.

I got to do something campy but cool today.  I had a last minute call this week from someone asking me if I wanted to drive my 64 Corvair in a parade through one of the suburbs of San Diego.  While war veterans were mentioned, I didn't know until I got there that I was meant to drive a Pear Harbor survivor.  So I got to drive an very nice 89 year old veteran down the route and enjoy hearing the crowd cheer and thank him.

I've only been to one parade in my life (Rose Parade around 1980) and I'm pretty cynical when it comes to patriotism since terrorists ruined my birthday and Bush made it hard to love the country after that, but it was great to help honoring these old guys who were all in their teens 69 years ago.  The veteran told me there are 71 Pearl Harbor survivors in San Diego and, "fewer every year."

Also with me below are my friend and his two sons.  Since I didn't know I had a dignitary, I brought along some people who could wave at the strange people for me.

Me and Cecil (I didn't place the crooked sign on my car):

The whole crew:

Two old clowns along the route:

And two more (The shirts say under the Palin photo, "Our hope for 2012):

So what's new in my life?

I've been elected Religious Advisor for the Omaha, Nebraska chapter of the Hash House Harriers!

What's the Hash House Harriers?

We're a drinking club with a running problem. It's a club that was established in 1938 by British Business men overseas in Kuala Lumpur, and it has since grown to gargantuan proportions with chapters in most major cities all over the world.

What do the Hash House Harriers do?

We get together regularly to participate in what amounts to an athletic drinking game. It's like a treasure hunt and a nature walk, with ridiculous traditions and rituals and lots of crappy beer. Even with all the beer, it keeps me active and I'm always in better shape when I've been regularly hashing than when I haven't.

What does the Religious Advisor do?

All the ceremonial stuff, including blessing the hares before they run off and lay trail, and officiating at the ceremony at the end of every trail, where we sing our ridiculous songs and make people drink copious amounts of beer for imagined infractions they committed on trail.

I just thought I'd share news of this honor with my buds. I know a lot of people have never heard of the club before, and when I tell them about it, some of them even go scope out their local chapter to participate. I definitely encourage that, because it's a lot of fun and a neat group of people. It's also a great way to meet new people when you travel, cause there's always a very high likelihood of a chapter existing wherever your destination is, and a ready-made group of people to meet and hang with and network with to find other local points of interest.

If you want to know more about the Hash House Harriers, here are a few informational links:

Just realized two things:

1) I mentioned hashing in an old post in this thread, but I wasn't RA then. It's still a new announcement and there's more info this time around, but I didn't intend to be spammy and repetitious, so sorry about that. :)

2) The first two links go to the same place. I meant for the URL for the first link to go be http://talesfromthetap.blogspot.com but I pasted the link to the FAQ instead.

Monday I will have my life back.  After a grueling rehearsal period my local community theater will open its production of Lafferty's Wake tomorrow evening and run through Sunday.  I never have fun until the last few days, and it's never enough to make up for the crap beforehand.  And yet I keep doing this...

She is doing great, actually.  She's going to an adult ballet camp next week, and she's gotten to attend by offering her services as a massage therapist to the instructors instead of tuition.  Which leaves me alone in the house for a week, which means I get an all night Geek-fest that weekend with my friends.

Come out any time.

I actually talked about you last week while on a first date with a university librarian.  He didn't like my suggestion to respond to every question at work with, "Google that shit."
